Freedom isn't what people think it is. People have the idea of peace freedom confused. In
Roosevelt’s speech he says “an equally basic essential to peace is a decent standard of living for all individual men and women and children in all nations” (Roosevelt). Absolute freedom would be completely savage as stated in “Learned Hand’s I Am an American Day Address”. Freedom is ruthless and it is not one anyone would actually want.
You might want to argue that freedom is what everyone wants. But, in our society if we had no rules or standards to live by we would be completely lost and our society would crumble so would we. What we need in our society is unity we and peace.
If our countries were to have unity many things would be much more simple to …show more content…
have peace.
During war our country tends to be individual and selfish. If we were to come together as we did during the first year and a half of the First World War. We could've ended the war sooner if we would've worked together and not fought as individuals. I relate this a lot to sports. You can't win a game if everyone plays as individuals. You need to have a team effort to win the game.
With freedom comes increased costs. There will a wage increase demand. Which will cause other prices to increase. Fixed income groups such as business owners, workers, farmers, teachers, clergy, police, firemen, widows, and minors will not be able to afford their basic needs.
These groups will then demand special favors which is highly dangerous during the time of war.
This creates confusion, damages morale, and hampers the nation's efforts. All of that will prolong war which will make the idea of peace disappear.
If our future children want peace they need to have security. Which means secret treaties or political and financial commitments. This would have safety from attacks and wars. We also must meet the demands for wars. Our people will learn to accept hardships, inconveniences, and tragic sacrifices. Our people should be eager and ready to help with whatever is needed to win the war as soon as possible. We must progress as a country to build a better life peacefully for our future children. These developments are not possible when our country is diverted by war and other problems causing panic and confusion in our country.
Our people must contribute. If we all contribute there will not be a wage reduction. This means there will be no loss of benefits. Anyone and everyone can help make this be a reality. If we want to win this war we must go all out with everything. President Roosevelt mentioned extending the age limit for the draft from twenty-one to thirty to eighteen to forty-five.
Three months after doing this Germany surrendered (Roosevelt). If we choose to not focus on personal, selfish, or political interests at home. We must not be overconfident either. Overconfidence is our greatest enemy during war. Becoming overconfident causes war production to slow down and stop. Our attitude can lengthen or shorten our war and it can also cause more of less soldiers to die.
We need to have a stable economy for our people so that we can create a peaceful environment for our people. If costs are always on the rise because of farmers expecting more then our people will always be anxious about money. As our nation grows by size and stature our industrial economy expanded all of our political rights were inadequate to prove equality for our pursuit of happiness. If we have a national service law it will prevent strikes and provide work for all able-bodied adults. This law and many others with ensure that living costs will stay down.
Freedom is very important to a society. But, too much freedom can cause savage behavior. We have rules and standards placed for a reason. Without them our society would fall to pieces
and crumble. People who argue that freedom is what our country needs have become confused with the idea of peace. If our country has peace along with a stable economy and our people work together in unity it will seem as if we are free. Freedom is very much a state of mind much like happiness. If you have an attitude that is upset you won't feel freedom or peace. But, if you have an open mind you will feel free and peace. Furthermore, I believe that freedom has become confused with peace in our day of age.
