My Learning Style
Adult Learners have inclinations about their particular learning style, but these sometimes represent issues or barriers in learning used in the classroom or on the job. Using Kolb’s Learning Cycle, I will outline and describe my learning styles, which I discovered using the Felder’s Index (Felder, 1993) and Kolb’s Learning Style (http://www.businessballs.com/kolbslearningstyles.html). The results that I obtained were of no surprise to me. After reading the literature, I subsequently knew which categories that I encompassed.
Concrete Experience
I visited several websites to study the various styles of learning. Through researching the different styles of learning, my goal was to identify my personal, preferred learning style. I conducted a survey using the Felder’s Index as a basis for determining my learning style (Solomon & Felder, n.d.). I also cross referenced Kolb’s Learning Style for a comparison of the two opinions on learning styles (http://www.businessballs.com/kolblearningstyles.html).
Reflective Observation
After careful analysis, I discovered that there were multiple ways that an individual learns and each one has a unique style, tailored to them. This included me, as well. I noticed that there were four ways of learning, and with each one, there was a dimension which determined which style a person may prefer. The four dimensions, according to Felder, are Active and Reflective learners, Sensing and Intuitive learners, Visual and Verbal learners and Sequential and Global learners (Felder, 1993). Kolb described these as Diverging, Assimilating, Converging and Accommodating learners (http://www.businessballs.com/kolbslearningstyles.html ).
Abstract Conceptualization
The hypothesis that I formed and concluded was that I have a moderate preference towards active learning because I learn by “doing or bouncing ideas off others”
