Reproductive roles Male’s job is to get the sperm to the egg The sperm are specialized to deliver the male’s genes to the egg Female’s job is to produce a gamete (egg) containing the female’s genes Egg is specialized to nourish the embryo Egg is large and contains nutrients Egg must be moved along Female must also nourish and protect the embryo and fetus This is the job of the uterus Male reproductive strategy: Produce millions of gametes and hope that one makes it to the egg Female reproductive strategy: Invest heavily in one gamete and nourish and protect it Egg Cell (Ovum; 1 copy each chromosome) Sperm Cell (1 copy of each chromosome) MEIOSIS (a type of cell division that begins with a cell with 2 copies of each chromosome and ends with 4 cells with 1 copy of each chromosome) FERTLIZATION (Fusion of Egg and Sperm nuclei; creates a cell with 2 copies of each chromosome)

Zygote (cell formed by fusion of egg and sperm; has 2 copies of each chromosome; will develop into new individual) Ovary (in female) Testis (in male)

    While reading this information I found myself lost at the beginning. I didn’t know any information about the male reproductive system because I never looked into it. I believe woman usually know about their body and men know about theirs. So by reading from this resource I found it to be the most informative and helpful to me than the rest of the resource that I’ve listed. The website gave a slide show with description and pictures that really kept me interested and wanting to learn more about the male reproduction system and how it functions. I learned where the bladder of a male is located, which guided me to learn about were the two seminal vesicles were and that they nourish the sperm. Also, that the urethra is the tube that carries the semen and the urine out of the penis. I knew that the semen and the urine was carried out of the same area, but I didn’t know the actual book definition. I also learned that there were many different parts to helping produce semen. The scrotum is divided into two parts with each containing a testis. The testes produce sperm and the sex hormone testosterone. "In most men the left testis hangs somewhat lower than the right one, although the opposite may sometimes occur." (Byer 153) The epididymis is a coiled tube about 20ft long, which runs along the posterior side of the testis.
