“Shut up ugly, I hate you, I hate you!” Kayla shouts to the boy living in the house on the opposite side of the street. Every morning just before lunchtime the kids would come out of their houses onto their porches and hurl insults at each other, making them hate each other more and more each day.
A few weeks ago Kayla and Kyle were playmates but that all changed when Kyle threw Kayla’s cabbage patch doll onto the roof. A cold war ensued between them turning the once happy friendship into a surprisingly large amount of hatred for a couple of 5-year-olds.

It’s true, whenever their daily war erupts, the two wouldn’t ever get hurt by each other's insults to the point where one of them would be crying. No one ever cries, no matter how many times Kyle tells Kayla how much her short-cut bob makes her look like a boy or when Kayla makes fun of Kyle because of his glasses.
They’ve never cried, until now and the one thing Kayla realised she hates to see is when the enemy cries.
“Why are you still crying? I said I was --” Kayla was shocked when she found herself wrapped in Kyle’s arms. She doesn’t mind how sweaty and smelly he is because honestly, He isn’t even smelly at all. Kyle hugs her tighter to the point of suffocation while mumbling “I’m sorry” over and over, “your neck isn’t even that long and your hair is pretty cool too, I’m sorry,” he rambles on and Kayla’s mother smiles gently.
To be honest, Kayla hates seeing people cry, especially when it’s her best friend Kyle. She pats his back and pulls away. “Stop crying now, idiot,” she says in a lighter tone than before.
