Left Hip Arthroplasty: A Case Study
INTRODUCTION
This case study will discuss the nursing care and needs of Mrs Audrey Smith, a 75-year-old female who was admitted to hospital due to fall at home because she had tripped over her dog. She was brought immediately to the Emergency Department by her neighbour. After a thorough assessment, Audrey sustained injury and bruises on her left shoulder and forehead following a diagnosed of fractured left neck of femur. Therefore, a surgical treatment of Left Hip Arthroplasty has been advised to her condition.

It occurs because of inappropriate relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) in response to an unknown stimulus. It is common for Audrey to have reflux because when people get old the LES become weak so it is advisable to give antacids to alleviate the symptoms.
OSTEOPOROSIS
(Sommers et al, 2015) defined osteoporosis is an age-related metabolic disease defined as low bone mass with a normal ratio of mineral to osteoid, the organic matrix of bone. According to definition it means low bone mass, which means Audrey is prone to fall and nurse ensures giving her calcium supplement.
TOTAL HYSTERECTOMY
According to Tabbner et al, 2009, TH is a removal of uterus and cervix through a horizontal incision just above the pubic bone. (Brunner&Suddarth 2010) defined potential complication after TH is bladder dysfunction so Audrey’s urinary incontinence can be related to this.
DEPRESSION
(Tabbner et al, 2009) defined depression as a major problem in older adults and may also be accompanied by worry and anxiety. This may be because sadness is considered a normal response to the losses associated with Audrey’s physical decline, loss of social role and husband, illnesses and side effects of medication.
