Gay marriage is a highly debated argument in the United States. Many people think that everyone should have the ability to get married. However the U.S supreme court ruled 5-4 0n Friday, June 26, 2015 that it is legal for all Americans, no matter their gender or sexual orientation, to marry the people they love. Gay marriage should not be legalized in the United States because it is not marriage. It offends God and denies a child either a mother or a father.
Gay marriage should not be legalized in the United States is because it offends God. Whenever someone violates the natural sexuality given by God, one sins and offends God. In the Bible it says “ The Lord rained down fire upon Sodom …show more content…
and Gomorrah. He overthrew those cities and the whole plain, together with the inhabitants of the cities and the produce of the soil” (Gen. 19:24-25). Saying that God punished Sodom and Gomorrah for the sin of homosexuality. Anyone that loves God must be opposed to it. 91% of gay marriages do not have their wedding ceremonies in a place of worship. Among people who are religiously unaffiliated, a solid majority have supported gay marriage since 2001. Six-in-ten Catholics (58%) now support gay marriage, as do nearly two thirds of white mainline Protestants 64%.
Another reason gay marriage should not be legalized in the United States is because it denies a child either a mother or a father. In the child’s best interest, it’s best that he/she is raised under the influence of his/her natural father and mother. A child of gay marriage will always be deprived of either a natural mother or father. He/she will basically be raised by one person that has no blood relationship with him/her. A child needs his natural mother and father, not two mothers or two fathers. Also 55% of Gay marriages have the emotional support of at least one set of parents. A recent study, using a large random population-based sample, shows that children raised by married moms and dads did far better in education and employment than peers in other parenting arrangements-including same-sex relationships- and were less likely to suffer from depression and drug use. They were less likely to be sexually abused, receive welfare, have an affair, or cohabitate. Married biological moms and dads matter to children. As the brief states: It is not simply the presence of two parents...but the presence of two biological parents that seems to support children’s development. Experts have long contended that both mothers and fathers make unique contributions to parenting. Mothering and fathering are two different things. The mother plays a role in child’s neural development, communication, sense of security, problem solving, understanding and responding to feelings, and social ties to both friends and family.
Why should gay marriage be legalized in the United states?
It is not marriage. Marriage has always been between a man and a woman which is by its nature ordered toward the procreation and education of children and the unity and well-being of spouses. Gay marriage proposes something entirely different. They propose the union between two men or two women. This denies the self evident biological, physiological, and psychological differences between men and women which find their complementarity in marriage. This also denies the specific primary purpose of marriage: the perpetuation of a human race and the raising of children. Two entirely different things cannot be considered the same thing. Just cause you call something marriage doesn’t mean it’s …show more content…
marriage.
Same-sex marriage turns a moral wrong into a civil right. Homosexuals argue that same-sex “marriage” is a civil rights issue similar to the struggle for racial equality in the 1960s. This is not true. Sexual behavior and race are two different realities. A man and a woman wanting to get married may be different in their characteristics: one may be black, the other white; one rich, the other poor; one tall, the other short. None of these differences are insurmountable obstacles to marriage. The two are still a man and a woman, and thus the requirements of nature are respected. Two individuals of the same sex, regardless the race, wealth, erudition or fame, will never be able to marry because of an insurmountable biological impossibility. Also inherited and unchangeable racial traits cannot be compared with nongenetic and changeable behavior. There is no analogy between the interracial marriage of a man and a woman and the marriage between two man or two woman.
People think that anyone should be able to get married have access to the same benefits enjoyed by heterosexual married couples. Also that the concept “ traditional marriage” has changed over time, and the definition of marriage as always being between one men and one women is historically inaccurate. From my understanding, marriage is for procreation and should not be extended to gay couples because they cannot produce children together. Also for the child’s best interest, he/she need both a mother and a father.
