As technology advances more electronics have been brought into classrooms to enhance learning. One of the many new gadgets is a tablet. Tablets require a new wireless internet connection system in schools along with the capacity on the tablets themselves for the textbooks and any other applications that could be downloaded. Tablets offer students distractions and access to emails and texting applications as well as game applications and easy cheating capabilities. Tablets also need repairs, constant updates and could freeze up or crash, losing all information stored on the device, at any moment.
Unlike textbooks, tablets allow for personalization. Email applications can be downloaded and accessed during class periods when tablets are not needed along with gaming and texting applications. Tablets also allow for a student to look up multiple answers easier, but not guaranteed that it is the right one. In textbooks there is only one right answer and does not leave room for word manipulation like in tablets. Email and texting applications make communication within the classroom easier as well, which can increase the amount of cheating and decrease the actual amount of work that is being completed. Teachers could begin to find more student failure due to their attention only being on their tablet and not the lesson during class time. Textbooks require attention to get the work done, and anything not learned in class can easily be found in a section of the book. Unlike tablets, if you don’t pay attention, you have no memory of the lesson and no reference either. Textbooks also don’t need personalization. They come standard for everyone and there are no special needs.
Wi-Fi has become a huge part of society today, along with tablets. Tablets need Wi-Fi to access the internet and to use most applications. Any books from an application need Wi-Fi to be downloaded onto the tablet. Wi-Fi also requires updated technology, which most schools that aren’t completely

Some people think that it is a bad idea to replace tablets with textbooks and some other people think it is a good idea. There can be many opinions over this topic, so let’s explain why we shouldn’t have them replace our textbooks. The first reason that we shouldn’t have them is because if you lose them it’s it will have a critical impact on school. One of the reasons it could have an impact is because we could lose everything you had on it. Not only that but they also cost a lot of money. If we keep the normal textbooks it will save money over time because they last longer than normal devices, and not only that they are a lot cheaper. In 2005 an Arizona high school passed out iBooks to all of its students instead of the traditional textbook (Source A). School officials were under the impression that having this technology would further engage their students in learning, though what they failed to address is other things it might engage their students in. Teenagers of this age already have short attention spans, and when using the internet, the moment a student gets bored they can click out and focus on something that suits them more than hundred year old articles about the Declaration of Independence, and instead spend hours scrolling though Tumblr or watching pointless music videos- or porn (Source E). Until schools figure out a way to quality control the internet, passing out laptops and iPads will not necessarily engage their students in learning.…

Teachers should make sure they are using technology in the classroom correctly to help students benefit academically. Students should use their time wisely in the classroom when assignments requiring the use of technology are assigned. This problem is not a problem that can be solved overnight. School districts and members of the community should work to find the necessary funding needed to help bring the access to technology to students’ homes. This will require partnership with business such as the local cable, phone, or internet provider. The school district and community should first be focused on providing internet service at a discount rate to household first. When that service has been provided, finding to a way to make technology devices accessible for students’ household should be next focus. Most importantly funds should be allocated for households who cannot afford any sort of internet service, regardless of the price and availability. These households should not be disregarded because they do not have the…
