Less Biased Assessment
Teachers are considered an important assessment instrument due to many valid reasons. Major parts of assessments take place in the classroom while students and the teacher communicate with each other. Teachers plan out the entire lesson before the beginning of the class. After planning out the entire lesson, the teacher allots different tasks to the students according to the lesson taught. While teaching, the teacher scrutinizes the students in the classroom and it is the teacher’s duty to keep the class engaged. This type of teaching influences students’ learning in the classroom. It is a teacher who provides sense to the interactions and also does the estimation based on the information received while interacting, who effectively utilizes this. Teachers assess students in the classroom in many different ways, such as work samples, maintaining student portfolio, tests, ongoing observation, debates, etc.
Teachers try to figure out whether the students are learning or not by doing these things. To achieve success in the classroom, teachers require various skills. Teachers themselves should be great readers and writers in order to understand the processes of literacy from every single angle. However, it is not right to blame a teacher for making a biased assessment. The idea of a less biased assessment comes from the teacher’s knowledge of the student and of reading and writing. The more practiced teachers are with understanding student literary practices, the more likely better results will appear from assessments. Things that will not work in replacing teacher knowledge are one- shot and commercial tests. More specifically, teacher’s feedback can be used by students to self-evaluate, which increases the chances of students taking control of their learning

    Assessment help to satisfy a number of different purposes in addition to learners learning, such as classifying achievement, quality assurance and supporting lifelong learning. As a teacher/ lecturer, I first organised initial assessment for my learners to test their knowledge of the course and level of literacy and numeracy due to the nature of the course. My class can be a mixture of different learners, some having done the course before and just need to repeat that level and others just starting completely.
