Letter To W-131 Student Essay
Dear W-131 student, During my first semester of college I was exposed to many new things. While I struggled at some points during my first semester, I was able to learn a lot of things that I will use through the rest of my academic career. During this letter I am going to tell you about my experiences with having my professors look at my papers before they were due, the importance of the syllabus, and procrastination. I hope that by sharing my experiences with you than you can learn from them also. The first piece of advice I would like to give you is when a professor gives you an opportunity to send them your paper before it is due, always take it. During my time in my W-131 class, I was the only one that would send my paper to my professor. My grades drastically improved after I started sending my papers to my professor. I could also see the difference between my paper and my fellow classmates’ papers. By having your professor look over your paper you are not only improving your grade, but also showing them that you care about your grades. If you don’t feel comfortable sending it to your teacher than you can go to the Writing Center, and have them look over your paper with you. Another piece of advice I would …show more content…

I will be the first to admit that I am really bad about putting things off until the last minute. Whether it be studying for a test or filling out scholarship applications, I have a tendency to put it off. Just recently I let my procrastination get the best of me when it came to studying for a test. I was pretty confident about what I knew, but the night before the test I started looking over the material and realized that I didn’t know it as well as I thought. As a result of my procrastination I did not do as well on the test as I would have liked. Now that I have seen what can happen I am allotting more time to study for test than I did

Within society there are many different types of people. Even within a culture there are thousands of subcultures and this shows as people progress through their daily lives in public places (Henslin 2005). Simply observing people through the course of a day in any given public place, you will see a vast variety of types of people and emotions they display. The public place that I chose to observe people in was the county District Court building.…

The art of procrastination has troubled high school kids for quite some time now. Im sitting here typing my own essay at the eleventh hour, hoping that as the deadline approaches I can piece together an essay to save my grade. “Procrastination is for the efficient at heart”, this quote captures the procrastinators only strength: the ability to make the most out of the time they have. Most students will crack as the pressure of meeting the deadline with quality work overbears them, as they regretfully wish they spent their time wiser. Few will rise up to the challenge and meet the standards, but what separates the students who succeed and those who miserably fail?…

Procrastination is a trait I have wanted to change about myself for a very long time. I always put things off telling myself I will get to it, which leads to years of stalling. My issue with procrastination has hindered me in many ways, one being, applying for college. I believe a fixed mindset has prevented me from changing this trait because I sometimes shy away from change, therefore leading me to feel as though I have time, which prevents me from achieving those things I dream of. From a growth mindset point of view, I would change this by embracing challenges and believing that my life can be continuously…

In high school, I always considered myself a good student. I payed attention in class, took notes, and genuinely took interest in my education. As a college student, I have tried to do the same thing. Of course, college is not quite the same as high school, and I have not always gotten the near-perfect results I used to expect. While I am working on my perfectionism as a separate issue, I am glad to take this opportunity to learn more about how to succeed in college. Three strategies I learned in this chapter include how to better prepare before class, how to review after class, and how to improve my note-taking strategies.…

As I disappointingly see my grades on canvas I tell myself that once I get home from school I will finish my homework and papers almost due before work today. I have four quizzes and two excel worksheets to work complete. I have three hours and a half to finish these before midnight. As I’m done with my first quiz I decided to take a little break so I take a glimpse at my phone and decide to watch just an episode of “Vampire Diaries” and next time I know its 5 o’clock and I’ve watched four episodes of the show. I just wasted all the time I had to finish my homework and now I have to finish it after work which I get out at 9:30 pm. There was no way I would finish on time with good scores.…

Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is hard for me to stop procrastinating. I believe I do my best writing at the last minute. I usually wait until the night before to do most of it. I am usually up late the night before the paper is due. Having things due dates has kept me on task, and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your result will be. That was my mistake with the argumentative paper.…

The relationship between how responsible you are and your college success is apparent in many ways. A good strategy is to follow the syllabus and set up a game plan or schedule. Following an agenda will help you spread out your work load over the week, it will show that you are on the right track and is a great indicator of how responsible you are. One of the worst traits that many people possess is procrastination. According to “California Polytechnic State University, Cal Poly Academic Skill Center” (n.d.) “The procrastinator is often remarkably optimistic about his ability to complete a task on a tight deadline; this is usually accompanied by expressions of reassurance that everything is under control. (Therefore there is no need to start.)” “At some point, he crosses over an imaginary starting time and suddenly realizes, “Oh no! – I am not in control! There isn’t enough time!” (Characteristics) The University states, later in their paper, the benefits of overcoming procrastination “Peace of mind, a feeling of strength and purpose, and healthy feeling of being in charge of your life. While procrastination makes you feel week, useless, and helpless, taking charge of your life will…

I have always been a huge procrastinator. I would put off my schoolwork until the last minute and then cram it all the night before. And to top that off I was also a Yes-man so I would worry about my friends’ work rather than my own. Definitely not a good combination. You can obviously notice the lack of performance I showed, especially in my grades. I went from being a straight “A” student, to a “B and C” average. I didn’t pay much attention to it though because everyone else had the same problem as well. I was surrounded by procrastinators, leading me to think that what I was doing was acceptable.…

    PROCRASTINATION

Procrastination is a major issue in our world today especially in colleges. It has cost people their lives and equally given them life time regrets. I have been an inveterate perfectionist-procrastination since birth. Procrastination has been the bane of my existence as a human being. I procrastinate doing the dishes, making lunch, doing laundry and even to eat food. Growing up as a kid was easier to cope this issue – procrastination because my parents literally had to push me to do everything, starting from performing my morning rituals to bed time. But right now this issue has gotten worse because I don’t have my parents in America to push me around to do certain things.…

    First Day at College

My first day at college is a memorable day in my life. I had been earnestly waiting for that day for a long time, because I heard many things about college education from my elder brother and neighbors who were college students. I started feeling that they had the advantage of moving about with an air of superiority. At last the long-sought day came and it was the 20th of July, 2002. A new pulsation began to urge me since morning to start for the place where the college stands. So, it was quite early when I reached the college. I was loitering hither and thither until I met a friend. He advised me to take down the routine which was displayed in the notice board. He showed me the notice board. I went there and took down the routine. It was the first thing that I did on my first day at college. I started to experience that the system in the college was different from what I was accustomed to in the school. With the ringing of the bell announcing the end of a period, the students changed class-rooms unlike in a school where rooms were fixed for different classes. The professors looked comparatively grave and composed and not grim and frightening like school teachers. The students behaved with chastening politeness. Even the menial staff appeared relatively refined and cultured in their dealings. I did not know before that roll-call was done in each period. All that, in fact, gave me a new kind of experience. On that day I had three classes, scheduled for the third, fifth and sixth periods. In the third period I had English. The Professor came, called over the rolls; told us a few words of welcome and then focused on the importance of learning English. In the fifth period we had the professor of Math. I enjoyed the class very much, while in the sixth period, the professor of Logic and Philosophy gave us an introductory talk on Deductive logic. All teachers were past masters in their respective subjects and I felt proud to have become…

    My First Day at College

College life is a life of freedom. I remember my first day at college. I had looked forward to this day from my school days. Life at college meant for me a new life. I was no more a young boy but a young man. When I entered my college for the first day, I looked around with a mixed feeling of confusion and joy. The stately building with massive pillars made a deep impression on my mind. I was puzzled as I was not used to the ‘college-ways’ of things. The students in batches were moving up and down the corridors for their classes. The professors were coming smilingly and exchanging greetings with the students in a friendly manner. The first item on the routine was a lecture on English. I joined my class in room No. 51. It was S.ALIS’s English class, S.ALI being the initials for the professor’s name. The professor came with the attendance register. After finishing roll-call he delivered a short lecture on college-life. What impressed me most was the fluency with which he spoke. He advised us to take the maximum advantage of college-life. Consulting my day’s routine I found that the next period was an off-period. This gave me a chance to make a tour round the college premises. I noted with a sense of relief that I would no longer be confined to the same room for hours together as I used to be at school. The first year of college can be a new and exciting journey for many students. Students can also take on new experiences in their first year of college; it can also come with bumps along the way. As a student he or she must find a way to balance their new life as a college student and their transitions. There will be difficulty transitioning such as adapting to new the new environment, trying to make new friends and difficulty with class work. Adjusting to an environment that you’re not used to can be too much for some students. You have to get used to the new living arrangements and having a roommate. Having a roommate is a great college experience. College…
