Procrastination Analysis
As I disappointingly see my grades on canvas I tell myself that once I get home from school I will finish my homework and papers almost due before work today. I have four quizzes and two excel worksheets to work complete. I have three hours and a half to finish these before midnight. As I’m done with my first quiz I decided to take a little break so I take a glimpse at my phone and decide to watch just an episode of “Vampire Diaries” and next time I know its 5 o’clock and I’ve watched four episodes of the show. I just wasted all the time I had to finish my homework and now I have to finish it after work which I get out at 9:30 pm. There was no way I would finish on time with good scores.

Berkman, a Psychologist wrote about various problems we procrastinate. One that caught my attention was that it’s a choice whether to complete an assignment, do something fun or simply nothing. He quotes “When the value of something else outweighs the value of working now.” More clearly students don’t see the value of their homework any better than going out to a party and having fun so they leave homework undone and so something more pleasurable.
A solution for this problem of procrastination Dr. Berkman suggests that you should change the way you value things. For instance increasing the value of your homework a decreasing the importance of going to a party. For example, you could think about how it’s important to maintain a good G.P.A to transfer to your dream University over going to a party where you won’t even know more than half of the people and you don’t even like dancing.
Majority of students of all grade levels procrastinate for variety of reasons but we can work on fixing this issue. We just need to figure out what is making us but what we need to do aside and end up not doing it or finishing it the last minute. Once we understand what it is we can work on fixing it. We can still go out and do our things as long as we manage everything we do properly, we need to do what’s more important first and prevent stressing about it later

First, to avoid accidentally carrying out this grade destroying deed, one must know the process of how to procrastinate. Commonly, there are four stages of procrastination: denial, good intentions, extreme misfortune, and final push. An easy way to remember these stages is to liken them to the four stages of a human suffering from constipation’s digestive process: dental, good intestines, obscene absorption, and final push. The denial stage of procrastination consists of the student considering all her current requirements and then giving the highest priority to the least important task such as earning an achievement in her favorite video game. Resembling the dental stage of the digestive system, the denial stage is the only instant where the student can control his educational fate; once this path is chosen, the student is required to complete both the digestive and procrastination process. The second stage offers the inordinate appeal of procrastinating. Though she possesses good intentions to get the assignment done, the student displays laziness…

In my personal experience, I have done everything said by the authors that cause procrastination. I have procrastinated for all the reasons explained above. In school when there was an oral presentation or an acting scene. Also I have tried to surpass myself every time I can and that had taken me into a burnout for being obsessed with super achievement. Everyone procrastinates. We put things off because we don’t want to do them, or because we have too many other things on our plates. Putting things off big or small is part of being human. You suspect that you could be a much better writer if only you didn’t put off writing projects until the last minute. You find that just when you have really got going on a paper, it’s time to turn it in; so, you never really have time to revise or proofread carefully. You love the rush of adrenalin you get when you finish a paper ten minutes before its due, but you are getting tired of pulling all-nighters. The short documentary I watched lasted Friday was about procrastination of students. The title of the documentary is “Maya na lang” made by University of Sto.Tomas (UST) students. Procrastination came from the latin word “Procrastinatus” meaning “pro” or forward and “crastinatus” or of tomorrow. These are the important things we oath to do or finish later. They interviewed some students in there campus if they procrastinate or not, when and how often they procrastinates and if they have a plan to stop procrastinating in the future. The reasons why they procrastinate is the fear of failure from a project or activity, perfectionism of work, confusion and self- doubt in doing the next move and the lack of priorities. This reason shows how people use their time in wise and in wasteful ways. In their survey, 88%-95% of the students procrastinate frequently. They also ask professors if they to once procrastinated in college. The major effects of procrastination is cramming that will result to stress and low quality of work and ending up having lower grades. They now consulted the guidance councilor of UST, Marie Agnes A. Buguid, who already handled students having problems in procrastination. She explained that procrastination is the delay of work. It begins with an excuse of having a more important work to do. As the person continues, it results to less important work being done first. Examples are playing, sleeping and lollygagging. These reasons according to the guidance councilor may be a result made by technology. The factors of it are the over-confidence of finishing faster a school work, the fear of failing to do the school work. Both can happen if either the person thinks the school work is easy or not ending up being a bad habit. When asked if the guidance councilor ever procrastinated while studying in college, she answered that as she grew older, she carried a habit of submitting any school projects as early as possible for the fear she might forget the…

One of the most obvious effects of procrastination is the failure to reap the rewards that would come from taking action. If a student chooses to procrastinate rather than complete school work on time, there can be many terrible effects. Of course, his or her grades could suffer if that particular school or teacher penalizes for late work. Severe procrastination can end in failure if the work is not accepted because of lateness. Even in the best-case scenario, work completed under the stress of procrastination tends to be poorly done.…
