Many psychologists claim that many college students procrastinate. Procrastination is the delaying or postponing of a task. Procrastination is a serious problem for college students because they may not excel academically and students may develop unhealthy habits. If students procrastinate, they may not excel academically because students may complete their assignments or study for test in a very short period of time thus they will not be efficient and the work produced may be poor and not satisfactory. Also they may not present assignments to lecturers on time and they may be penalized and all this can affect their grades causing it to be low and unsatisfactory and even cause them to fail their courses. Furthermore, if their grades are low then it means that overall their GPA will be low and so their parents may find it as a waste to finance their student’s education if they are failing. Also if students procrastinate, they may eventually develop unhealthy lifestyles. Since students try to complete task such as assignments and studying in limited time, they may have to spend all night trying to complete them and so they may lack sleep. Therefore students will not be able to concentrate the next day at school as well as they may be very grumpy, tired and easily irritated.
