Procrastination (Speech)
Ladies and gentlemen, despite my better judgement, I would like to begin today with a confession. I am a chronic procrastinator. I procrastinate on almost all of my school assignments and assigned tasks in my day-to-day life. In fact, I even waited until the last minute to write this speech.

I am here today, however, to convince you that this is not necessarily a negative thing. In fact, procrastination is a very common habit among students and people in general, and, for those people who do procrastinate; it often has some positive effects.

I believe that procrastination has, unfortunately, developed a bad connotation over the years. Too often is it associated with stereotypical slackers, who are too lazy to do the work before the last minute.

This of course is not true and I am personally offended by this association because I am not a slacker. Those people who do procrastinate have just chosen to go about life in a different method that is more convenient for them. Rather than planning out their lives, these people live in a day-by-day, short-term situation, and this makes them happy.

As far as I'm concerned putting off things you can do today until tomorrow isn't a bad thing. One must consider that maybe I'm just pacing myself, making sure I don't take on too much, giving my life a chance to catch its breath. When viewed this way, it would seem that, contrary to popular belief, procrastination reduces stress.

I've heard many people who are of the opinion that they "suffer" from procrastination. But is it procrastination or just plan guilt? I think it's the latter. People labour under the belief that procrastination is bad, and that if they don't space out their work, it will make the task more difficult. The problem lies in the fact that when one spaces work out over time, it leaves them with no time that is free.

I think that it is best expressed in the line: When in doubt, waits it out. Take a breath. Don't be in such a hurry to fix whatever ails you

Therefore speaking, I think procrastination is a good thing if you’re using your time and mind in the right way. Not by playing video games, watching television, sitting around, and doing absolutely nothing. You could make up healthy ways to use your time, like Raymond Chandler did in sentence 16, “Chandler forced himself to write detective stories by setting aside four hours a day and following these two rules: a .) you don’t have to write. b.) you can’t do anything else.” You could make alist, and list the things that could and couldn’t do during that time.…

The art of procrastination has troubled high school kids for quite some time now. Im sitting here typing my own essay at the eleventh hour, hoping that as the deadline approaches I can piece together an essay to save my grade. “Procrastination is for the efficient at heart”, this quote captures the procrastinators only strength: the ability to make the most out of the time they have. Most students will crack as the pressure of meeting the deadline with quality work overbears them, as they regretfully wish they spent their time wiser. Few will rise up to the challenge and meet the standards, but what separates the students who succeed and those who miserably fail?…

Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is hard for me to stop procrastinating. I believe I do my best writing at the last minute. I usually wait until the night before to do most of it. I am usually up late the night before the paper is due. Having things due dates has kept me on task, and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your result will be. That was my mistake with the argumentative paper.…

I learned several things about my procrastination habit. I only have one thing that I would procrastinate about and that was going back to school. “There's nothing wrong with procrastination. Or is there? I'll leave it to you to decide, but only if you have the time.”- Craig Brown. Procrastinating plays a role in someone’s life. It is something that we all as humans try to overcome, but in reality, it is something that will impact us in some way, at any cost. Procrastination is a habit of putting off a task until a later time what could or should have been done at that time. It’s a tormenting weakness I’m struggling with and it’s keeping me back from being successful. It’s like an virus eating up my body infecting various parts of my life.…

College is difficult, it demands a lot of your time, and attention. Have you ever said the words,” I will do it later”? We are all procrastinators in some way or another; the difference is some people stick to their deadlines (with the proneness to misjudge the amount of time it takes to finish). According to Center for Student Excellence (CSE) advisors many college students find themselves waiting until the last minute to study or complete assignments, and students often find themselves procrastinating due to their newfound independence, a multitude of distractions and a lack of motivation (Patrick, 2014). One explanation for procrastination is that it is a choice. We have a choice to complete a task now instead of later. Another explanation is that it is a way to deal with anxiety, boredom, guilt, frustration and anger. When we procrastinate it can adversely affect our health. In a study done in 2007, researchers found that while at the beginning of the semester students who procrastinated showed less signs of illness and lower levels of stress than non-procrastinators, by the end of the semester, the procrastinators were found to have higher levels of stress and illness…

Procrastination is generally defined as the act of replacing high priority actions with those that have less priority. In psychology, procrastination is the temporal gap between intended behavior and enacted behavior. (Mind tools) This psychological behaviour is widely associated with adolescents, especially those in college where homework and projects are prominent parts of life. It is also estimated that up to 95% of college students have the constant urge to procrastinate.…

For many individuals, procrastination is a long term habit and seemingly unavoidable personality behavior. Procrastination is not limited or attributed to any specific personality type and is a widespread social problem, with an estimated 15-20% of the American adult population and an estimated 80-90% of college students being self-confessed problematic procrastinators, (SecondsofEternity). This means that everyone either students or working people have procrastination behavior and it is depends on that person how to control procrastinating and how he or she manages his or her time.…
