Many people have different perspectives on what the words, “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” mean. These three words actually do have many different meanings depending on who the person is. These words are natural rights that the thirteen colonies fought for in the Revolutionary War. The Declaration of Independence is a statement adopted by the Continental Congress that stated the thirteen American Colonies were separating from the British. In this Declaration of Independence, it stated that the king of Britain “refused his assent to laws.” (Jefferson) When the King refused to live by natural laws the colonists felt the right to break from the British government. For example in an article it says that for “cross-racial or gay couples it means the right to marry.” (Hamilton) To me the pursuit of happiness means to be able to do things that make me happy like being able to have pets and hanging out with friends. Some people consider the pursuit of happiness as being able to freely pursue joy and live the life that makes you happy as long as you do not do anything illegal or violate others rights. In an article its says that “the Pursuit of Happiness” has to do with “seeking it” or “going after it,” (Douglass) so if something makes you happy then follow your dreams and do not let what people say stop you.
“Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” were natural rights that the thirteen American Colonies wanted. A person can learn to not let others stop them from doing things they love or things that make them happy by analyzing this. These ideas may relate to our world today or to the world in the future because today there are people who get their right of pursuit of happiness taken away. People today should know that nobody should be able to take away or violate their rights. Everybody should be able to do things that make them happy as long as they do not do things to harm
