Michael’s College and he is studying Zoology and Religious studies. The courses that he’s taking in College basically define his personalities. Originally Pi and his family is Hindu, he knows many things about it. He also says that his interest and love for Hinduism is all because of faith. But Christianity and Islam interests him as well. “I would like to be baptized and I would like a prayer rug…Why can’t I be both?”pg 79-80 is what he tells and what he asks his father, because he wants to practice three religions simultaneously. “I don’t have pity spare for the long zebra when your own life is threatened, your sense of empathy is blunted by a terrible, selfish hunger… This is not something I am proud of. I have not forgotten that poor zebra and what it went through. Not a prayer goes by that I don’t think of It.” pg33. This shows how he loves animals and he is willing to share all that he has if he’s not only hungry. Father Martin is a priest whom Pi met at Munnar. Pi is really afraid of churches because he has never been on one in his entire life, and he’s afraid that somebody will shout at him and will ask him what he is doing there. But Father Martin change his expectations because the priest first words for him are “Hallelujah, my son”pg 59 which kind of made Pi feel welcome to the church and to the religion. That scene shows how hospitable Father Martin is, he also answered every question and he explains everything that Pi asks and everything that he has to know. Questions like why do Jesus has to supper even though his people are supposed to suffer for their sins, and Father Martin’s answer is simply “love”. His hospitable manner on people wondering about Christianity and his love for the religion makes it easier
