Life Story of Dr. Ravi Liyanage
1. Current Position:
Dr. Ravi Liyanage currently working as the Chairman/ Chief Executive Officer of the Kingdom of Raigam, one of the leading foods manufacturing and distribution companies in Sri Lanka. However, his journey to the success was not merely a bed of roses and instead he had gone through many difficulties to enter in to this current position throughout his life. This document reveals his autobiography where we can learn many lesson for our lives.

2. Inception of the Business:
According to him the inception of Kingdom of Raigam took place in 1997, close to his village called Kananwila, with eight employees. As University batch mates they got together and started the Kingdom of Raigam in order to practice what they have learnt. His father as well as the mother was school teachers. However, his father did not have a chance to enter University due to numerous barriers that prevailed at the time. Due to this reason his father wanted him to enter University; and he was fortunate enough to get selected to the University of Sri Jayawardanapura to study Business Administration. From his first day onwards, he had to study in English medium at University. Since his knowledge in English was very poor, he had to study the English language from the beginning. This made the first few months at University a very challenging time to him, since he could hardly understand the lectures. That’s how his life started. Finally he overcame these difficulties, and completed the degree with a class.

Soon after University, he began his career as a Sales Representative in 1984. Later on, he joined the Sri Lanka Customs Department as a Superintend. In an attempt to broaden his knowledge, he started the MBA at the Colombo University. Subsequently, in 1997 he completed his professional examinations with ICASL and SLIM. He also began to study CIMA, but was unable to complete it due to financial difficulties.
