People tend to view perfection as a requisite for high art but think that any perfection has its own defects. Besides unimaginable inspiration of “the Kiss” by Gustav Klimt (page 418 on book), I cannot admit its uncompelling features.
What captures my attention the most must be various shapes, which are drawn, in large quantities and small sizes. This creates a sense of fullness and continuously blossoming formations. In particular, the artist cleverly chose hearts, rectangles and circles as overall physical outlines to reveal fullness. Besides, the shape in the pictures obviously fortifies the reflection of a beautiful and intense love. As can be seen clearly in the artwork, flowers and hearts, symbol of a love and beauty, are full in any viewers.
My other intention is paid to the shape of the woman’s face, a triangle, which is depicted as slim and pale. Viewers are then able to feel more delicacy and vulnerability, protected in the man’s embrace. The beauty of dress outlined by colorful circles is also dominated. Secondly, color in the painting, is original. The combination of light brown and yellow, the two dominant colors, makes the work brighter in terms of contrast. Love here, according to my perception, is as physically and emotionally passionate as the yellow burning fire. In spite of many color combination, I do not feel tangle in my eyes but a fantastic harmony. The yellow-featured intense black rectangles strengthen the image of a strong man. Especially, the pale skin of woman is also a miraculous mix, which is, I believe, the ability of gifted artists. Green and brown are another exquisite blend. It is also a beauty of nature when a loving couple exists on brown land and green grass. Overall, shape and color have the power to tremendously inspire me.
However, no perfection is free from any defect. And the Kiss by Gustav Klimt is not an exception. When contrast is concerned, I do not think the
