The disenfranchised working class took to the streets on the 16 August 1819 to protest over their lack of suffrage in the hard economic times. Historian Robert Poole has gone as far as to say that Peterloo was one of the defining moments of it’s age1. For what came to be known as The Peterloo Massacre became a clear indication of the lack of ways in which the working class and peasantry could voice their political beliefs: They did not have the vote, the protest was violently suppressed- and following The Peterloo Massacre newspapers and other publications were censored or shut down if they were deemed to contain any seditious messages. It seems by looking at the sources that one of the most notable shifts in political voice is the censorship and suppression the government issues with the massacre and following it. However, Peterloo did embody a shift towards universal suffrage and a broader political voice, with women veering into the political spectrum for the first time, taking part in the protests and rallies.…

Kaplan brings original documents from the time of the execution, and claims that they prove that Lopez was convicted because he was Jewish. The Tattooed Soldier, a novel written by Hector Tobar, tells a story of a Guatemalan immigrant by the name of Antonio Bernal, trying to make a new life in Los Angeles, California, but at the same time heal the wounds inflicted by painful memories of his murdered wife & son, Elena & Carlos. The worse of the memories is of the murderer, Sargento Guillermo Longoria, sitting on a bench eating ice-cream with a particular tattoo on his arm resembling a yellow jaguar. To escape the same fate that his family endured, Antonio got on a bus to America. Thinking this would be a kick-start to better things, an "All-American Dream" that was actually a nightmare. A bright, intelligent student back home in Guatemala city, he was reduced to an non-existent, incompetent being working remedial jobs to get by in the eyes of the affluent- the "Americanos" (pg. 10). In L.A especially, there was a lot of immigration coming from Guatemala. Common reasons for coming to America to live the "American Dream" was to escape poor sanitation, lack of economic opportunity, political instability & unnecessary persecution for being who you are. Life in Guatemala had harsher, permanent consequences compared to life in America. During this time frame,The 36-year war that engulfed Guatemala pitted the government against left-winged guerrilla groups. Imagine never really feeling comfortable in your own home, let alone in whatever type of environment you might be in, constantly looking over your shoulder to see if anybody is watching you, taking notes of your every move……. Antonio really didn't have to fear that in America, because here, he was invincible. In a place where optimism No one noticed or even cared who he was, the only thing that people thought when they looked at him was that he was "another homeless face" looking for free comfort. I see this a lot within…

It is within human nature to feel as though one can label a person as good or bad without fully knowing that person. Serial killers are a type of species presumed to be inherently evil and more flawed then the devil himself. This definition of serial killers is widely accepted among different nations because as a whole the people of the world genuinely agree on what is coherently good as well as what is coherently evil. Thanks to universal coverage and bias opinion which is divulged by the media most people have difficulties seeing serial killers in any other light besides the root of all evil. Something not quite understood by people is the lack of morality which is evident in all, not just serial killers. Sadly enough in today's society forgiveness is not something easy to gain and in order for it to be sincere the past must be forgotten, something even more difficult to achieve than equality. Considering that most, if not all, serial killers follow through with their actions based on some form of chemical inequality within their brain; it seems to make no sense as to why the human population would judge them any more than they would judge a person with autism. Modern day views on serial killers have been produced from the world's lack of knowledge within the psychology field from the start. Before people were given the correct information as to why serial killers killed people it was assumed that they were simply horrid people who must be killed. Now more is known about the psychological issues serial killers experience which causes them to pursue certain actions allowing for their reasoning to be somewhat understood by all. Serial killer Pedro López, although, had a different and more disturbed childhood than most serial killers which is thought to have lead to his type of crime. Like most "normal" people Pedro López was unable to forget the past of revise it in any way. The trauma Pedro López faced as a child caused psychological issues upon him, beginning…

But in terms of guidance and spirituality, however, Libanius looked to another woman, the goddess, Fortune. This may explain why his mother’s hold is not as strong on him, because Libanius in a way, had two mothers. Whenever he faced trials, and knows that some good will come out of it, he credits it to Fortune: “I was under the protection of Fortune,” “Fortune devised the following remedy.” He attributes motherly roles to Fortune who protects him and gives him a “remedy” when he is hurt. He found comfort not in his mother but in a god. In a way, this makes him similar to Augustine who also looks to God for guidance but in his case, his mother, Monica is a crucial connection.…
