Long Distance Relationships: How Does Media Communication Impact on Relational Maintenance?

A long distance relationship is very challenging for college students to maintain without face to face interactions. The influences that media usage has on maintaining long distance relationships is a big part of communication. This research is going to examine the types of communication methods between long distance couples and then to determine which type is most suitable for a healthy and stable relationship. . How does Media communication help individuals maintain their long distance relationship? I will examine the extent of the impact that mediated communication has on maintaing Long Distance relationships while in college. My independent variables in this conducted research are media communication such as email and mobile cell phones. My dependent variable is the effect of which types of media communication has made it easier to maintain long distance relationships. In order to properly test the affect of media communication within long distance relationships, one would have to interview and study a sample size that is representative of long distance relationships throughout the the United States. The mass element of research on maintaining long distance relationships has been focused on email usage. However, past research has failed to address that the results should not be generalized and focused only in one specific geographical location and types of people. The purpose of this paper is to determine the best type of media usage conducive to the success of maintaing long distance relationships. There has been a gap in the previous research relating to this topic. Some of these articles have failed to discuss How Media communication helps individuals maintain their long distance relationship. The influences that media usage has on maintaining long distance relationships can vary in all directions; I will discuss these different types of communication throughout

    Communication between military families is not excluded from this aspect. Depending on deployment location, deployed spouses can talk to their partner and children as many times a three times a week or as few as a four times a month. When deployed service men and women contact their families it is usually via some form of technology. A technological form of communication utilized by military families is email.
