In previous years, Alliances in Marketing had struggled to inform students about events and club related information. Alliances in Marketing’s focus is on showing the importance of relationships and career development. Every year the club provides events and workshops to prepare students for the work force; however, no matter how valuable the training, the club struggles to reach students. As an Executive of Marketing in the student club, I was in charge of planning, filming, and editing videos for digital marketing campaigns. These videos were designed to help engage and inform students about resourceful club information and events. The videos would be shared through social media to best reach students. As a result, the club had one of it’s best years in terms of attendance and student engagement. In past years the club struggled to attract audiences and maintained members. As the Vice President of Marketing at the University of Calgary Improv Club, I handled the entire marketing department. Some of my responsibilities included designing the website, running workshops, and operating the club’s social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram). In response to the club’s engagement problem, I took the time to understand and talk to the members in the club. After discussing and asking some people to take a feedback survey, I understood the root of the problem; people felt being involved with the club wasn’t valuable to them. As the Vice President of Marketing, I promoted the club workshops on social media as a way to relieve stress and as a way to improve your communication skills. Meanwhile, I would lead those workshops by using my improvisation training from the Loose Moose Theatre. As time progressed, I taught shy students how to communicate to an audience, and I helped tense students learn to let relax. I wanted to make sure they felt supported and that they were learning Although, no matter how much I’ve told them they’ve improved, they wouldn’t believe me.
