The first boy to die was Simon, because he went crazy from starvation, and the way he acts made the other boys think he was the feared "beast", causing the group of boys to kill him.
Simon knew he was going crazy when a pig's head starts talking to him, "You are a silly little boy," said the Lord of the Flies, "just an ignorant, silly little boy." (143)
The Lord of the Flies is actually just a pig's head on a stick, and it is supposedly talking to Simon, showing how mad he has gone.
Jack's party got out of control when the tribe began chanting, "The blue-white scar was constant...Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill the blood...Simon's dead body moved out towards the open sea." (152-154)
During this time, Jack's group was having a party, when Simon came out of nowhere. Since Simon had been in the jungle for many days, he looked very ragged and shabby. The boys, thinking he was the beast, attacked Simon, killing him. After his death, the boys felt very ashamed and awkward around each other about the deed they had done. They then realized how serious they had gotten about things around the island.
The second boy to die was Piggy, when he got in a feud with the other boys about his stolen glasses to make fire, and was knocked off a cliff by a rolling boulder and killed.
It was devastating when, "The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee...the body of Piggy was gone." (181)
