Lord Of The Flies Leadership Analysis
Robert currently works as the senior project manager at Southern California Edison. He is responsible for handling media and public relations. He is in charge of a team of people who help him to organize projects. Edison International is one of the largest companies responsible for distributing energy through their smaller branches. Working at Edison is comparable to the military, as there are ranks. Everyone works through a structured pyramid and reports to their superior. The CEO is at the top, followed by the chief executive officer, then the senior vice president, then the director, etc. Everyone has their job and an authority they must adhere to. Robert’s day begins at eight in the morning, when he comes into work. He spends about …show more content…
First, I learned that you have to work hard to get where you want to be. It is very hard work to be a leader and you have to be persistent. However not everyone is meant to be a leader. People should be aware of this and choose leaders for their wisdom and whether or not they attend to the needs of the people rather than choosing leaders on charisma alone. Someone might display the qualities of being a leader but be lacking in other respects. In the case of Lord of the Flies, while Jack had experience being a leader he was unfit and unable to put first things first on the island. He also did not care for the wellbeing of the other boys. While Ralph was able to maintain a democracy, Jack did not consider the needs of the group as a whole. Something important I have learned from both Robert and Lord of the Flies, is that in order to be a good leader, you must model behaviors you want others to follow and lead by example. For example, towards the end of the novel, Ralph began behaving like the other boys and playing their uncivilized games. He was no longer modeling the behavior he wanted the other boys to follow. The most important thing I have learned, however, is that in any leadership position, it is important to consider the entire team, be hardworking, and be responsible for your actions and the actions of your group. With these core values, a leader can reach their fullest

At the beginning of Lord of the Flies Ralph and Jack are competing for the role of leader. They go about this in very different ways like how Ralph tries to convince them about what needs to get done and how they should be doing things. While on the other hand Jack tries to gain the affections of the group by letting them do whatever they want whenever, and giving the meaty nutrition (69). Ralph has a lot of good leadership qualities like being able to take input from teammates like Piggy, and how he focuses on the immediate problem at hand (42). Jack has good leadership qualities as well like how he is willing to let them have fun, and how he organizes the hunts (51). Thought they both have admirable leadership qualities I believe the better leader of the two is Ralph.…

Loyalty: Strong Leadership Quality Loyalty is one of the strongest traits of a leader. From the Lord of the Flies, Ralph is the leader of the group of kids on the island. One piece of evidence to support the claim is, “He bound himself together with his will, fused his fear and loathing into a hatred, and stood up”(Golding 123). That quote helps to show that he was able to be loyal and stand up to face the beast, which everyone on the island is afraid of.…

Jack is the most effective leader in Lord of the Flies because he has gotten the most results when following through with plans. The boys on the island listen to him and do what he says without question, even if it is harsh. He isn’t afraid to be blunt with the boys and believes he is the strongest one there, even though he was not voted chief. Jack’s arrogant and hostile personality makes the other boys feel intimidated to follow his commands. This is apparent when Jack orders the boys to start collecting leaves, sticks, and dried wood to help create the fire: “All at once the crowd swayed toward the island and was gone--- following Jack. Even the tiny children went and did their best among the leaves and broken branches” (Golding 38). In…

In Lord Of The Flies by William Golding, Ralph would be a good leader because he is very well-respected, especially when he’s angry. For example, when the boys are having a meeting and Ralph tells the boys that his dad is in the Navy and he will rescue them all the boys get happy and excited, because of this “ the assembly was lifted towards safety by his words. They now like and respected him” (pg.37). Ralph has such a way with words that the boys trust him enough to believe that his dad really is coming to save them. Another time Ralph is well respected is when Jack comes back from killing a pig and Ralph says to him “ You talk.…

The novel, Lord of the Flies draws in realistic political views in relation to the author, William Golding’s concept. Golding adopts contrasting views of leadership and quarrels between leaders to attempt to properly represent the national government leadership. The United States government leader, President Obama once said “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek” (Brain Quotes 1). He instilled a concept of self production, hands-on leadership and not to wait for change. The exact same concept was expressed in depth in Lord of the Flies, the author William Golding uses a deep inner character contrast in order to reveal their individual style of governing. The author customizes his writing to show the power within Ralph and Jack which are driven by inner moral and reasoning for Ralph, and for Jack a sense of dictatorship and holding utter control. All in all, Golding approaches the concept of leadership from an angle perceived by the reader to be an honorable way of living--Ralph and an unfit…

It is difficult to pick the right leader when you are stranded on an island all alone and you are twelve or younger years old. In William Golding’s novel Lord of the Files, the young boys have to make this decision. The leader on this island shouldn’t be just one boy. It would be best for the kids to pick two boys to lead their pack. Piggy and Ralph are perfect examples of kids who should be co-leaders. The boys might not have thought about it, but it should be both of them for multiple reasons. First, these two boys work really well together together. Piggy and Ralph have worked well together since they found the conch in the beginning of the book. Also, the two boys have the same goal. They want to get off the island as soon as they can.…

With leadership comes power; some use their power for the greater good and some abuse it. Many people want to be the leader of a group, but may underestimate the amount of responsibility it actually takes. Although everyone is capable of using their power for the greater good, it is easy for someone to get caught up in power and abuse it. In Golding's novel “Lord of the Flies” Ralph, one of the main characters, shows how people are capable of using their power for good. The plane Ralph, and a group of other british schoolboys are on, crashes on a tropical island. Right away the boys call a meeting by using a conch shell blown by Ralph, and declare him as the leader. However not everyone likes Ralph as the leader. Throughout the book Jack, another boy on the island, tries to prove he is worthy of being the leader. The boys slowly but surely leave Ralph’s group to join Jack’s. Soon Ralph barely has anyone on his side, and he is watching all the other boys turn savage under Jacks power. In WIlliam Golding’s novel “Lord of the Flies” the characters learn the…

Good leadership can be found in an individual that is persevering, does not give up, and encourages others to reach their goals. In Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, Ralph and Jack are both given the chance to become leaders. However, both of them display negative qualities that reflect onto the rest of the group. Respect, a given human right, leads to a group disagreeing and falling apart when not upheld. When leaders fail to uphold democratic rights, society falters.…

What is a leader, you may ask. It is a person you can depend on to lead and make the right decisions for your group’s ultimate survival. In the book The Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of boys crash land onto a deserted island. They elect Ralph to be their leader to ensure order on the island, but the boy’s civilization on the island is slowly falling apart. Ralph is losing control of everyone and the island is becoming extremely chaotic. I believe that Piggy would be better suited as a leader than any other boy on the island, including Ralph.
