Lord Of The Rings Hero's Journey Analysis

The lost king from Tolkien's Lord of The Rings series, having passed the first threshold, takes on his labyrinth and rescue, ultimately accomplishing his heroic deeds. Although Aragorn follows his own path to kleos he travels not alone but, like all heroes, with friends otherwise known as his hero partners. For Aragorn a company consisting of an Elf, a Dwarf, a Man, four Hobbits, and one Wizard to give mystical insight, accompany him on this voyage while also passing as a hero partner for his companions’ own hero journeys. With the western path under Saruman's watch, the fellowship, guided by the grey wizard , take the mountain pass of Caradhras. The pass proving ill, they enter the Mines of Moria, only to be ambushed by hordes of orcs. On
the verge of escape, Gandalf takes on “a foe far beyond any of” the others, a Balrog; fighting well only to be snagged at the last second by its fiery whip dragged to the depths of Moria (Tolkien). At once sorrow grasps the hearts of the fellowship members after losing the guide, however, Aragorn ability to persevere allows him to take charge, ultimately saving the lives of his comrades by leading them to safety, shows the true hero within him. Receiving several gifts from the Elven people of Lothorian the heroes continue onto the next step of their journey, the dark road of trials. Once having passed the first threshold, heroes such as Tolkien’s lost king from the Lord of The Rings trilogy quickly start checking of several steps on their hero’s journey.
