The Karnofskys was a Jewish family and they encouraged him to sing and often invited him in for meals when he had not eaten in a while. When Louis was 11 he was arrested for firing his Step – Fathers gun at a New Year’s Celebration of 1912. He was then sent to the Colored Waif’s Home for Boys, there he received musical instruction on the Cornet and there he fell in love with music. In 1914 he was released from the Colored Waifs Home for Boys. Louis Armstrong married Daisy Parker in the year of 1918 and divorced her in the year of 1923. A year later he married Lil Hardin Armstrong he then divorced her in the year of 1938. That same year he married Alpha Smith and he then divorced her in the year of 1942. That same year he married Lucille Wilson and that was his last wife until he died which was in 1971. Within a year with ever divorce he, married another woman. Louis Armstrong has many famous quotes such as “Musicians don't retire; they stop when there's no more music in them.”, “All music is folk music.
I ain't never heard a horse sing a song.”, and “If you have to ask what jazz is, you'll never know.” Those are all quotes he used all throughout his life. Louis Armstrong developed a way of playing jazz as an instrumentalist and a vocalist which had an impact for all musicians to follow today. Louis Armstrong was also the only black Jazz musician to publically speak out against school segregation in 1957. He also was in different groups such as the Hot Five and the Hot Seven were his recording groups for his records. He also played in many movies such as Cabin in The Sky, Going Places, Dr. Rhythm, A Song is Born, Young Man with a Horn, Satchmo the Great, and so much
more. Louis Daniel Armstrong had an effect on many other singers who came after him such as Bing Crosby, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and many other artist, musicians, and singers to come.
