What is love? A person tends to have likes, preference and desires of his or her heart that differs him or her from other human beings. Some choose to be with the company of others and some rather be alone, one’s garbage could be somebody else’s treasure, some prefers pork while others love chicken or beef, etc. There are things, people, situations that we are comfortable with which others feel otherwise. Love gives color to these choices, if we love someone or something – we accept anything that comes with it.
There are times that we have to give in to something which is not what we want so someone gets the pleasure of having the desire of his or her heart. We sacrifice our own satisfaction so someone can get what he or she wants and that is love. To sacrifice in the name of love is an effort that is not expecting something in return, it gives the delight that what you have done filled a missing ingredient of your day. Sometimes I wanted to watch something on TV but my brother want something else; giving in to his choice would give me more pleasure than insisting mine and break his heart.
This distinct behavior defines our nature of attachment to others. Our parents bear the pain of being away, years at a time so we can have a better life. Any overseas worker parent or kids can relate to such pain of absence. In one point or another, we have to surrender for the sake of a loved one. A good emphasis is a love of the parent to a child, love of a husband to his wife and vice versa, the love of God to humanity. And that is definitely the most important thing that one can never live without.
