The "Yellow Wallpaper," is a personal account of the author's, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, struggle with depression. It vividly documents one woman's experience with depression and the toil she endured through the treatment of the "Rest Cure." The narrator in Charlotte Perkins Gilman's short story, "The Yellow Wallpaper," is truly insane from the very beginning of the story; she just falls deeper and deeper into insanity as the story progresses. In the beginning of the story she tells of how her husband diagnoses her insanity, "a slight hysterical tendency,"(633). Later in the story she admits her own condition, "I get unreasonably angry with John sometimes…I think it is due to this nervous condition."(634). John, her husband, makes her stay in bed and rest through the story; this contributes to her gradual slide into complete insanity. She begins to show signs of her schizophrenia. She sits in her room starring at the walls and begins to envision people stuck behind the wallpaper.…

As a member of nearly two years with Seminole, I have been able to experience an atmosphere of genuine love and acceptance that I now hope to further encourage and foster. This will be my sixth year as a part of the marching arts, during which I have had the privilege of playing and marching for two different ensembles, as well as maintaining leadership roles in both (leading two front ensembles and being relied on heavily at my place of prior attendance). With all the time I have dedicated to learning and plying my craft, I now seek to instill in others that same sense of wonder, amazement, and motivation that…

When someone uses the word “insanity,” the human mind may potentially go many in many different directions when defining it. One person may claim that the definition is “doing something over and over again and expecting a different result,” however, many other people believe in using the words “crazy” or “mad” to associate with insanity. Insanity is many things, but overall, it is something that affects the human body and mind in horrid, terrifying ways over a period of time. What causes insanity? The main cause among mental instability and other causes, is isolation. Isolation can cause horrifying changes to the human body and mind and can cause a mediocre human being to go dashing into the embrace of insanity.…

This year, my first year in Color Guard and Marching Band, I’ve learned discipline and what it means to be a part of something bigger than me. Working with the other girls on guard, we work as a team to learn our routines and how to stay in sync with our flags which takes a lot of hard work and repetition. During our long, strenuous rehearsals, it is important to stay focused and pay attention to directions. By setting an example for the younger members, I hope to show them what it takes to be successful in what we do, because it cannot be done without a huge amount of commitment and pride to represent West and our Marching Band program.…

No matter what kind of day I have had or what day it is, cheerfulness and excitement springs up and carries me during, before and after the games. My passion for dance has also allowed me to create many choreographies for my school, such as a dance routine for our school’s panther pride theme song, football and basketball cheers, and chants, and entertainment performances during games’ timeouts. Many people fail to realize the true purpose and beauty behind cheering for it revolves around the art of choreography. My viewpoint of cheerleading goes beyond the fancy bow, the shell crop top, the socks, the skirt, and the tennis shoes. As I move with much enthusiasm and avidity, I become the uniform. Even though cheering has been something I have done for ten years of my life, I challenge myself to become a better cheerleader every…

In my small town of Centre, Alabama, I had no pride. I did not think our school had amazing programs or good representatives at events. All this changed when I joined the high school marching band. We practiced hard and worked without stopping.
