The body notices that a unwanted disease has entered the body and tries to find a cure for it. To do this the body produces antibodies. Antibodies are substances produced by the body to fight the disease by combining chemically with substances which the body doesent want. Vaccines trigger the immune system to produce antibodies as though it has been infected with the disease. This means that if the person is to be exposed to this disease again the immune system will recognse it and produce the antboodies needed to get rid of the disease. This decreases the risk of getting the disease because the body is quicker to identify the disease and knows what antibodies to use. The MMR vaccine needs to be taken in two separate doses in order for everyone to give a maximum immune response to the disease meaning there will be maximum protection. The first dose is given at 12-15 months old and the second dose at 4-6 years old. Doing this twice means the antibodies get produced at a faster rate and at a higher blood percentage level which gets rid of the disease faster than what only one dose would. These antibodies produced after the MMR diseases enter the body give lifelong protection against these …show more content…
The main reasons why someone could be prevented from getting this vaccine could be that they had a life-threatening allergic reaction to the antibiotic neomycin or other ingredients of the vaccine, they had a life-threatening allergic reaction to a previous dose of MMR and wont be able to get there booster dose done because another reaction is likely to occur. Also if someone is sick at the time they are getting the vaccine they should wait until they recover. Pregnant women should not get MMR vaccine and should wait until after giving birth. Women should also avoid getting pregnant for 4 weeks after the MMR vaccination has taken place because serious birth defects can occur and even miscarriage. These people that cant get the vaccine could be more likely to get the disease which could be a risk to the community and cause an outbreak but for these people taking the vaccine is a lot riskier and a higher chance of causing problems than not taking the vaccine and getting a
