“Faking madness to throw people off—is one of the oldest tricks in the book. In Hamlet, Shakespeare takes it up a notch.” (http://www.shmoop.com/hamlet/madness-theme.html) In my mind, this shows how extremely obvious the theme of madness is portrayed by the character Hamlet. He fakes madness throughout most of the play and is never really caught. This statement is very true because the whole reason or idea of the play is the fact that Claudius lied about killing King Hamlet. And now young Hamlet is trying to revenge his father and ends up lying more and more because of it. It’s kind of contradicting and hypocritically of Hamlet to do these things, and yet he does them anything. “Claudius lies to the entire state of Denmark by killing King Hamlet.” (http://schoolworkhelper.net/deceit-in-hamlet/). This statement makes the theme of lying very clear, because Claudius is brave enough to lie to an entire state about the murder of his own
