The Frederick Douglas story tell me about the slave who named Frederick Douglass learn how to read and write. He lived in Master Hugh’s family about seven years. During this time , he succeed in learning to read and write. He did not have a regular teacher at that time. His teacher was many little white boys who he met in the street. Unfortunately, his mistress who was his slaveholder did not like him spend time to learn read and write. Nothing seemed to make her more angry than to see him with a newspaper. He tried to make friend of all the little boys whom he met in the street. As many of these as he could, he converted into teachers. Therefore, with their kindly aid, obtained at different times and in different places, he finally succeed in learning how to read. After that, he got hold of a book entitled “ The Columbian Orator” and every chance he got, he used to read this book. He found in this book the slave was rep-resented to as having run away from his mater three times. In my opinion, this book give him several ideas about freedom. Furthermore, the reading of these document enable him to utter my thoughts, and to meet the arguments brought forward to sustain slavery.
