Malcolm's Monologue
Act 1

The sweet smell of coffee wisps pass Lisa's nose. The light chatter, dim lights, and silky smooth voice coming from the radio engulfs her senses. Her aching feet carry her to the coffee machine, needing an immediate pick me up but her actions are halted by the vibrations from her phone. She lifts her coffee stain apron slightly to get a better view of her screen but becomes annoyed by the unknown number. She was seconds away from hanging out but the area code made her second guess her actions. Crouching behind the counter; trying to stay out of her boss's vision; she answers the phone.
Lisa:
Hello?

Receptionist:
Hi, this is Maria from Churchill East Hospital in New Haven, CT. Ryan Malcolm is here with us, we need you as soon as

She weighs her options. Should she stay and keep her job or see if the love of her life was ok? She goes with the latter. With tears streaming down her face like raindrops on a window sill, she grabs her phone, dunks her hand into the tip jar and bolts out of the coffee shop. The streets are filled with nocturnal party animals,only lit by the fluorescent street lights. Lisa sprints past all the people , barely noticing the dirty looks they shoot her way. She weaves between couples, bike riders, lamp posts, anything that stands between her and her lover. The train station is nearly empty when she arrives. Trash is dancing in the wind and the dim lights flicker off and on. Lisa sees the ticket booth about to close and her heart …show more content…
A blanket of darkness washed over her. When the train crashed and her body slammed against the wall, all she could think about was him.

Act 2 She squints her eyes at the bright lights, everything feels so amplify. The beeping of the machines, the smell of coming up in the air and the needle stuck in her arm. Her joints are locked and it feels like all the energy has been drained out of her body. She gathers She gathers all hers all of her strength to open up her eyes. She blinks a couple of times to get used to her surroundings but is baffled as to why she's in a hospital. The feels around and touches the cold help button.
Nurse:
Oh my god! She's awake. She's actually awake.
Lisa:
Where am I? Who am I? Why am I here?

The nurse stands frozen, not answering her question but instead runs away screaming for the doctor. She tries to move but the only thing she can pick up are her scrawny pale hands. Her starts pounding like a drummer in a band. She lays her head back and allows her eyes so flutter close. She allows herself to slip into unconsciousness.

Doctor:
Ma’am please wake up. Are you ok?

She opens her blurred eyes to a room full of nurses and doctors, trying to get a look at this medical mystery.
Lisa:
I'm awake.
