Manila Chamber Singers
Michael S. Veruasa BSCS 3 Logic

Practice makes perfect. The Manila Chamber Singers rehearsed prior to the formal presentation to make certain they’ll satisfy the crowd and satisfaction is an understatement—it was an amazing performance that will leave an indelible mark on my inner artistic self.
When the first song was showcased—our national anthem, I knew right there and then that I got more than what I paid for. I couldn’t remember the last time that the LupangHinirang gave me goosebumps.
They introduced four spiritual songs and I thought their repertoire was limited to this genre. I took notes on vocal dynamics since I encountered it on “Hallelujah”. I also jotted one particular song—KommtIhrG’Spielen since for me singing is hard while singing good is harder but singing a german song that good? The ensemble never ceases to amaze me. On top of that, they also did some cultural songs from local regions of our country (i.eKruhay from Panay island)
I took some videos since I am eager to show my musician friends the Manila Chamber Singers experience. This doesn’t happen every day, so why not capture the moment?
It got more entertaining when they did popular songs that even youngsters knew. Of all the songs from their set lists, Overdrive and Moonriver belong to my favorites. Overdrive has a cool bass line and Moonriver has a nice chord progression, imagine my joy when I heard these from them. But the real surprise of the evening was when they did the medley. They got the crowd with all sorts of dancing, acts etc. I thought these type of performers were too conservative, kudos for breaking boundaries and spicing it up.
I was totally impressed by the event to the point that I caught myself practicing those do-re-mis

The songs with political tones were pretty interesting to me too since I had never heard any of them before. I was also a little bit surprised when the sacred music did not have instrumental accompaniment, because I am so used to hearing it with church music. The martial music was fun to listen to, especially Yankee Doodle because it is so familiar with the words that were later added to it.…

It is my first time hearing watching Mariachi music live. Last night Mariachi Tersoro, performed at Phelps Stolks in Berea College at 8:00 pm on September 15. It was the first concert that I have participated since I became a student at Berea College. The enthusiastic audiences who were filled in Phelps hall with excitement and anticipation for the new exotic singers. They were yelling and whispering to one another while the group was getting ready to appear on the stage. The microphones and musical instruments were ready on the stage, and the clock clicking the remaining time. A beautiful young lady held the microphone and started to introduce the band. She mentioned their names and mentioned their talents too. Finally, the members of the…

Overall, I enjoyed my attendance at the concert choir held at Benedictine University. The show was well done and I could tell that the members of the choir worked very hard in preparation. Although there were eight songs, the concert went by fairly quick. There was only one baby grand piano in the middle of the stage, but other than that, it was interesting to see that no other instruments were used except for their own voices and they were able to project an excellent performance for the…

Most things usually do not stand out to any ordinary person attending a choir performance, but a person who knows about music, they were astonished and a bit of a critic. “They were a bit of pitch sometimes. Treble Choir was a bit distracted. There was one girl at the edge that kept on moving and fiddling too much and kept me distracted. Concert choir was a bit too stiff as for their performance, but other than that, they were pretty good. Vocal Ensemble was an overall amazing performance. I’m very proud of my wife, Suzanne” Jeff Brookey. As for I, it was an amazing performance. This performance was a free show and I recommend for people from the community to come and support their students talents.…

The singing ability in this show was spectacular. I was impressed by the lyrics of the songs as well as how the acting fit right in with the vocals. The dancing was phenomenal. Last February 16, we were required to watch Art in Action: Dance Series which features the Brazilian School of Capoeira (EBC). The program contains lectures and actual performances by students from the university and guest artists. Some of the lectures given were the following; Introduction to music, benefits of music to the artist and audience, elements of music and intoduction of different filipino ethnic instruments. The program also featured different kinds of dances like ; Philippine Northern Dances, Mindanao Dances, Classical Ballet, Swing, Modern Dances, Streetdance and Capoiera. Even though a lot of types were mentioned, I saw that the program focused mostly on dances from our country. The program still focused on how vibrant our culture is and how it changed over time. Honestly, my perception of philippine dances changed after watching this show because I saw how beautiful and creative those dances were. This program really made me appreciate more our culture. I'm now confident in saying that I learned a lot from this program, not just from our culture but also about dance as general. I learned that dance is really a form of art because it also requires creative skills which are also needed when painting or in arts and crafts. However, the highlight of the show were the featured guests from The Brazilian School of Capoeira (EBC). Members of EBC performed and they surely left the audience in awe. They were kind enough to give a "free class" when they asked volunteers from the audience to come and join them onstage. All in all, the show was very fun and educational. I learned a lot of things about dance which changed the way I saw dance before. I really recommend that everyone should watch them perform. It's worth watching and everyone will surely have a good…

As a music performer, I once had a chance to perform in a Hong Kong artist, Aaron Kowk’s concert. The manager and other staff from Mr. Kowk’s team were devoted to reveal the most charming parts of Mr. Kwok to his fans and audiences. When I saw the smiles on the staff’s faces, I admired them from the bottom of my heart. Since then, I have had many chances to work as a volunteer for some public relations agents and helped to hold event, such as local concerts for both local and…
