An opportunity to understand and experience this better presented itself when I was chosen among thousands of applicants from my college to participate in a United nations conference joint conference with the Indian Astrobiology Research Center (IARC) called the RIO+21 IYWC INDIA CERTIFICATION PROGRAM. The theme of the conference was water conservation and water purification. This conference helped me understand the need for safe, affordable, and accessible water supply and how materials and manufacturing engineers like me would be responsible for developing next generation filters and purifying systems. I was greatly inspired to make a change in the life of many people, especially in a developing country like India, where clean water is still inaccessible to many sections of the society and there is substantial work that can be done to alleviate social issues via the use of science especially mechanics. The education that I would draw in Delft would furthermore enable me to do some commendable work on core social and environmental issues facing nations …show more content…
I would like to mention that instrumental to my drive in joining this particular track is to interact with Dr. Michael Jannesen. I am particularly influenced by his studies on Fracture toughness and would be immensely lucky to interact with him. Some of the themes I would like to work on at my academic course at Delft are in the area of optimization of turning parameters using the Artificial Neural Network (ANN). Additionally, certain other areas that interest me are Composite Materials, particularly study the behavior of bonded joints which determines its wide range of applications in the manufacturing sectors especially the aerospace industry. My long term aspirations would be to pursue a PhD program at Delft and contribute to the research of my field of study along with my underlying passion to help and make a difference in society through the use of scientific

"So have you decided what you want to major in yet?" asked my high school counselor as I sat before her trying to decide what my class schedule would be like for the following year. I wasnt sure how to reply to such a question considering it was one of the most important questions I could ever answer that would direct my life to its development. I began thinking about all the classes Ive taken throughout high school and there was one class that really stuck. A class I took my junior year as an elective, a class I took just to see what it was like. After taking Environmental Science for a full year I discovered myself and my views on the critical issues of our surroundings. I discovered a different way of thinking I never thought I possessed; the way that made me become more aware about issues that involve our planet. I deeply contemplated the question and answered with a smile on my face, Yeah, I want to be an Environmental Engineer. I was convinced about my choice and ready to incorporate all the lessons I learned from the various readings and projects and opening a new opportunity for others to learn what I did in my class. I was dedicated to ensure that our future generations would not live the life of affluence that many of us live today. I believe it is crucial for everyone to understand how our current global problems affect everyone, present and future, and that is what influenced my decision to choose the major that I did.…

I admit the obstacle to writing a Statement of Purpose has been in not knowing how to begin with one. I start in this manner not on a whim, but from necessity. It was either this or facing the grim possibility that I would never finish with one. I have tried my best to not disseminate the differences on how one is written and how it ought to be written. As such, I apologise if my attempt is over descriptive, or has a rigid perspective, and mainly for the sophomoric nature of this paragraph.…
