March Concert Make-Up Assignment

For the March district concert, the Chorale sang a variety of songs including Land of Our Dreams, Seize the Day, The Water is Wide, and They Dared to Dream. Some songs were filled with emotion, such as Land of Our Dreams, while others were peaceful, like The Water is Wide. The biggest part about the four songs that the Chorale performed are that you had to keep the sound moving and make it seem like the song was going somewhere. Dynamics and vowel sounds were also major factors in fulfilling the emotion in all of the songs. The first song that I listened to was Land of Our Dreams, sung by the New London High School Concert Choir. One of the first things that I noticed with this performance is that there

I thought they sang this song beautifully. The tall vowel sounds made it sound very mature. When they split into more parts, it sounded very dramatic and each part sounded like one voice. Dynamics were very prominent during the performance which made it more interesting and engaging. I listened to Hartnell College Choir sing Seize the Day. During the first section of the song, there was definitely determination. I noticed that there was a great amount of individual voices sticking out. Most of the chords sounded nice and you could hear each part. The dynamics in this performance were very dramatic and showed how intense parts of the song were. I did notice people moving around a lot and I now know why we are constantly told not to as it is very noticeable. I think that sound quality can be improved upon to make this an exceptional performance. Ponaganset High School Concert Chorus did an exceptional job performing Seize the Day. There was a steady tempo as well as very noticeable dynamics. The dynamics told a story because they were quiet at some parts and then at others it was loud and showed determination. I could hear each section clearly which helped with chords. Also, the intonation was very accurate. The last song that I listened to was They Dared to

They all acted like 13 year olds the entire time, they got excited like that age does and looked like that age. They also seemed very close, they all talked like they were best friends and knew each other for quite some time. Their voices were very clear and loud, because I could hear them, even if the audience was clapping or even whooping. The actual lines were very smooth with each other, none of it seemed abrupt or too early. Talking about clear lines, Ava Duval (Star) didn’t have any trouble with her lines, and was very connected with her body movements.…

I have never heard such music as this and watch the players articulate the movements and timing necessary to be able to play such difficult pieces as these. Their sound was like a whole orchestra playing with them but it was only four players. It was a whole new experience for me. These pieces were beautiful but I guess I just didn’t have an ear for the changes in pitch and frequency. It was quite odd but also added to the pieces. I can’t wait to go to other concerts. The atmosphere is unlike any other. This experience unmatched by other concert experiences I’ve…

Although I am beginning to appreciate classical music more, I personally enjoy music with words more than music without words. When songs have words I pay more attention trying to figure what the storyline is behind the song. I am very into music all genres such as, pop, country, rock, reggae, and so on. I am open to listening to anything new, which is why I enjoy going to different music events such as this block party. Overall, I enjoyed this performance very much and I am glad I got to see such a great band perform for free, thanks to Utica College. I wish I could have listened to more but I am glad I got to hear a few musical selections before the event was…

Overall, I enjoyed my attendance at the concert choir held at Benedictine University. The show was well done and I could tell that the members of the choir worked very hard in preparation. Although there were eight songs, the concert went by fairly quick. There was only one baby grand piano in the middle of the stage, but other than that, it was interesting to see that no other instruments were used except for their own voices and they were able to project an excellent performance for the…

    Sac State Jazz Concert

I respected the professionalism and passion that the Christian Brothers Vocal Jazz portrayed through their performance. It was nice to see young students who showed interest in vocal jazz and performed it very well. Though, I would have to say my favorite pieces came from our own Sac State Jazz Singers, “I’ve Got Life” by Take 6, which was accompanied by a three man band, piano, bass, and drums, who all did an excellent job, and “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons/Pentatonix. “I’ve Got Life” featured singer Pam Shankar who is an outstanding singer. She had such a jazzy, bluesy, and soulful voice. The song “Radioactive” was amazing especially because it was similar to the arrangement of the group Pentatonix and was A cappella while Ian Miclat was beat-boxing throughout. I was very into the feel of the music that it kept me bobbing my head. I enjoyed these the…

Most things usually do not stand out to any ordinary person attending a choir performance, but a person who knows about music, they were astonished and a bit of a critic. “They were a bit of pitch sometimes. Treble Choir was a bit distracted. There was one girl at the edge that kept on moving and fiddling too much and kept me distracted. Concert choir was a bit too stiff as for their performance, but other than that, they were pretty good. Vocal Ensemble was an overall amazing performance. I’m very proud of my wife, Suzanne” Jeff Brookey. As for I, it was an amazing performance. This performance was a free show and I recommend for people from the community to come and support their students talents.…

Overall the delivery of the speech was average. Tyler’s delivery was best. She had enthusiasm and a smile the whole time while she was speaking. Tyler also had good volume and vocal variety. All the group members had appropriate volume and pitch. Some of the members paused unnecessarily which was a little distracting. They all used filler words three or more times. Pronunciation and articulation started off well but towards the end it became…

It wouldn’t allow anyone to fall asleep if they wanted to, and you just felt the bang on your chest. Well, at least I did. Sergeant Sara Sheffield who is part of the Marine Band, presented each piece before the band performed it and also sang a few pieces. One of the songs that she sang was “Amazing Grace”. Her mezzo soprano voice is absolutely amazing and I envy the way she made it seem so easy to be on stage and sing in front of people so calmly and effortlessly.…

    A Choral Tapestry

It seems that versatility was one of choir director Dr. Charles Clency’s focuses when he picked out the repertoire. The program of the event reads: “A Choral Tapestry. A blend of choral genres: mass, madrigal, oratorio, opera, musical theatre, pop, spirituals, gospel…” and the list goes on. There was versatility even within the choirs themselves. For instance, the first six songs were sung by the Choir of Lake County, but the first four pieces were sung in Latin, French, Russian, and Italian, with mezzo soprano Sheila Bondurant singing Carmen’s solo in Habanera, while the last two were excerpts from the musicals The Phantom of the Opera and Oklahoma. This is quite the contrast. I’ll admit, at first the concert was slow. This could be because of my own preconceived notions on how the concert was going to play out, or it could have been that my preconceived notions were true. The following group caught my attention a little bit better, which was the all-women’s choir who sang a dreamy French piece called Clair de Lune, which translates to “moonlight” in English. Notions of leaving pervaded my thoughts up until the Chamber Singers…

Sac State’s Ensemeble performed three songs these were: Summertime by George Gershwin with an arrangement by Carlos McCoy, Songomania by Rebeca Mauleon, and Rumba Urbana by Oscar Hernandez. Sac States ensemble had a much smaller group of individuals performing but the performance they gave didn’t lack in any way. Throughout the performance I noticed there was a lot of trumpet, and the piano was a lot faster in the song Summertime. It reminded me of salsa music, something you could dance to with a fast beat. In Songomania there was a lot of Piano, and Drums I loved when they performed this song because most of the instrument players got independent solos to show off their talents. Overall Sac States performance…

One portrayal of singing as a passion that I thought was well done was the description of the two main characters’ voices. While one had a deep and rich voice, the other had a light and air one. No, I haven't been to a musical (lately). But Friday "my" choir and I had an appointment with, well, the rest of the population here, really. The local choirs (5) and whoever else who wanted to come along, were gathered to sing. The choirs had 2-3 songs each in between, but the rest was pure singalong (not karaoke..).…
