Mare D Albert Government School Analysis
Mare d’Albert Government School, founded in 1928, is situated in a rural area in the south-east of Mauritius. It has a pre-primary school attached to it. Most of the students’ population come from different ethnic groups and economically secure families. Though the school infrastructure is safeguarded and well-built, it necessitates a renovation in painting to make it appealing to students. The school, having two-stream classes at primary level, is equipped with a library, a media room, a computer lab, a canteen and toilets which are fully utilised by the students. On the other hand, the administrative personnel share the same office space with each one having his/her desks.
Given the opportunity to observe the pre-primary and the lower primary classes, we noted that the former ones are cleaner and attractive compared to the others which are in need of a repaint and clean dustbin. Sometimes, the elder children visit their sisters, brothers or cousins in the pre-primary during lunch break. Or, we notice the younger ones eager to join the elders in the playground.
Mostly, all morning assemblies that we attended were carried out by the Deputy Head Master with active participation of students and teachers. Everyday two students from the upper grades are randomly nominated to carry out the Morning Prayer in both French and English Language. At times, the Head Master or the Deputy Head Master communicates important messages during the assembly, for instance, in regard to the eclipse which occurred on 1st September 2016, the Deputy Head Master informed the students of the phenomenon in advance and the appropriate measures that they will need to take on that
