Mariah Carey's Song Hero
When thinking about the soundtrack for my life, the songs and lyrics that would best suit my life story, unfold before my eyes. Starting with a song by the Judds, titled Grandpa; reminding me of my early childhood, in which my grandfather was the biggest influence on my life. The lyrics of this song reflects what he had endeavored to teach me. He taught me right from wrong and about keeping promises. There were many occasions he would tell stories of his experiences to impress upon me valuable life lessons. Most important of all he taught me to love myself and others; that love was an important part of life and not something you throw away. He raised me until the age of eight years old; as my parents were wrapped up in the lifestyle not suitable …show more content…
Since childhood and into my first marriage, there was emotional and physical abuse. This song helps me to remember I am a survivor, a contender and a hero with the strength to overcome all obstacles. It comforts me in times of despair to listen to the lyrics, and even to sing along to advance my self-esteem. When this song was released, it encouraged me not to give up on myself. By 1996 after being married to an abusive husband this song reassured me and started a new life on my own., Subsequently, four years later on November 18, 2000, my life changed, by marrying the most patient, loving man in my life; besides my grandfather. We were married for less than ten months when a tragic and unexpected work related accident occurred, taking his life on September 12, 2001; my world was shattered and my heart was overwhelmed with grief; shutting myself off to from the world my grief, confusion and despair only increased. Then one night, hearing the song Hero being sung by Mariah Carey during the America: A tribute to Heroes benefit concert; the tears flowed and the realization of the my inner strength was there within me to begin a life with Rick being physically there. Having found hope in my inner strength allowed me to survive

The music in Raise Your Voice is significant to showing how Terri has undergone a change in her life. ‘Someone’s Watching over Me’ is a song that is sung by Terri and the lyrics help to convey her emotion. Terri no longer wants to “give up” and will “be strong even if it all goes wrong”. This demonstrates Terri’s development in her attitude from her experience to overcome her challenge. As a result, we are shown that transitions are not always easy to adjust to and that through persistence we are able to…

Her first response was that she liked to sing. After finding a song on my phone, we sat together in the scorching sand listening to the swelling piano chords. Peace overtook my frustration and fatigue. I could not heal with my hands or medicine that day, yet I discovered the unity that stems from challenges. In times of vulnerability and fear, we lean on one another to draw strength.…

“Every day every hour. Turn the pain into power.” Danny O’Donoghue, a vocalist member of the band The Script, sings in “Superheroes” about the strength that comes with overcoming the struggles presented in life; similarly this message can be seen in Ishmael Beah’s recount of the challenges he faced as a victim of war, A Long Way Gone. To me, the song is a reminder of how difficulties can build someone into a stronger person. Throughout the song, all the lyrics hint that without suffer and perseverance, success cannot be achieved. Similarly, in Beah’s story, he becomes a teenager with more fortitude only after breaking down and experiencing immense grief and pain both physically and mentally. From listening to and analyzing “Superheroes” and reading A Long Way Gone, I learn that only after breaking down and…

The song starts out with a strang questioning of reality: “Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide, No escape from reality, Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see”. They first two lines are rhetorical questions. They help establish the state of mind needed in order to continue with the song. The third line is a metaphor. It means everything is crashing down on him, and he cannot escape it. It seems to conclude that he is caught between a dream and awakening. The next couple set of lines are being used as transitions into the main part of stanza one, “I’m just a poor boy, I need no sympathy, Because I’m easy come, easy go, Little high, little low, Any way the wind blows, Doesn’t really matter to me, to me”. In the third and fourth line repetition is used in order to keep the lyrics flowing. The boy thinks his life doesn’t matter to anyone, his life is meaningless and the Earth does not care what happens to him. He does not care what happens next, he just wants it over; “any way the wind blows” him, he will go and it “doesn’t really matter” to him anymore. The next three lines show intent to kill by the boy, “Mama, just killed a man, Put a gun against his head, Pulled my trigger, now he’s dead”. The boy has finally come to terms of what he has…

“The person starts by taking the drugs, but then the drugs start taking the person, that’s what happened to me” said Johnny Cash about his own addiction, in his autobiography Man in Black. Johnny Cash was born in a small town in Arkansas and used his musical talent and incredible story-telling abilities to win the hearts of Americans during the 1950s into the 1960s. But all that fame and fortune can take its toll on a person and cause that person to resort to desperate measures in order to go on with their lives. Johnny Cash’s decisions during his time of fame and the realization of his faults give way to him being called a tragic hero.…

For my song I picked Garth Brooks “The River.” I consider this song to be very meaningful. This song is about chasing your dreams and never giving up on what you believe in, reminding us that life is shorter than we think and if we just stand on the shore watching the river go by, then life will be gone before we know it. Garth Brooks uses a lot of psychological concepts in this song, such as, Attitude, Affect, Motivation, Optimism, and Behavior. Garth Brooks says, “A dream is like a river.” A dream changes, just like a river changes. As life changes, the river can be calm then strong then calm again, so our path in life change. Garth Brooks says that “He will sail his vessel until the river runs dry.” To me this mean no matter what life throws…

The lyrics of the pop song, “Stronger”, by Kelly Clarkson, is highly significant because of its empowering message. The lyrics allow listeners to feel confident about being strong no matter what or who may try to bring someone down, even if it were their own mistakes. To convey this message, Clarkson used many literary devices. For example, in lines like, “What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, Stand a little taller” there is external rhyme, which makes the song more pleasurable to the ears. Its chorus, “What doesn't kill you makes you stronger” is a metaphor, that refers to the fact the previous mistakes and people that hurt one’s feelings, should making them stronger. The theme of these lyrics is that there needs to be growth…

I chose this song primarily for the reason that it adequately expresses how I view romantic relationships and what I would aspire to have in a relationship. This song speaks particularly to being open in communication and feelings within a relationship, as well as being comfortable with yourself. Additionally, it addresses to not be ashamed of your past, and to be able to trust that the other person within your relationship will accept you without judgment. I feel that this song promotes a friendship-based relationship, which is the type of relationship that I prefer.…
