Schmalz, we can see Jesus in a more modern sense. In this sculpture we see a park bench with a homeless man lying down on it. The homeless man is laying with his head near the end of the bench and his feet coming to about ¾ down the rest of it. His arms seem to be bundled about him under a blanket that not only covers his torso but wraps around his whole head as well. His legs are covered in what could be either cloth or pants but his feet are bare. The interesting thing to look into with this sculpture as opposed to “Pieta” depicted above is the bench that homeless Jesus is laying down is defined and very bold even though it is a background object, supporting the only main character Jesus. Jesus in the second picture also does not have a face, because it is covered by the shadow of the blanket wrapped about his body. While the “Homeless Jesus” piece does include detail down to the folds of the blanket and legs, it pales in comparison to the first sculpture. This is because most contemporary art focuses much more on the basic form and does not require as much
