The Film- Master and Commander is a historical movie that references and depicts one of the naval battles in the Napoleonic wars. It focuses on the mission of Captain Jack Aubry to stop the French ship, Acheron. Throughout the movie it portrays the Captains fierce naval strategies as well as the tough make it or break it decisions he is forced to make for his crew and himself. Captain Jack was used to being the hunter, not the prey. Yet early on he discovers that with the French it’s the complete opposite than he thinks. He finds out he is being watched and preyed upon by the French ship Acheron, not the other way around. Soon after Captain Jack and his crew are ambushed and left with a damaged ship. While the crew was eager to return home and fix the ship back on land, the Captain decides against it. Instead, they sail out into the fog to disappear and fix the ship at sea to be able to continue their mission. When Acheron once again begins pursuing them, Captain Jack creates a plan to become the hunter of the French. They come up with a decoy to distract the French in the night to pursue them, yet run into a problem. A huge storm hit and the Acheron were able to disappear from Captain Jack and his crews hunt. Throughout the movie, Captain Jack has to make many tough decisions. For example, when another storm hit their ship and a mast falls while taking another crewmember with it, the mast was acting as an anchor to the boat. Captain Jack was forced to let the man die in order to save the rest of the crew from becoming stuck and stranded. Another decision that was made by Captain Jack was whether or not to break the promise to his friend that allowed him to explore the Galapagos islands for a few days. Even though he ended up breaking the promise between himself and Maturin, an accidental gun wound to another crewmember set the Acheron back towards the Galapagos Islands for medical help, which ended up giving Maturin a chance to
