Mathematics and Moreno Valley
Dear Mrs. Ericson,

My name is Kylee Willette and I am in your Period 6 Algebra 2 Honors class. I was born on August 14, 1997. I have lived in Moreno Valley for nearly ten years now. I live with my mom, stepdad, and younger sister, Jade. Before Moreno Valley, I lived in Hemet. The only languages I speak are English and Spanish, although I don’t like speaking Spanish in public. During my free time I like to listen to music, play Xbox and pc games, draw, read, and watch movies. As a student, grades are very important to me. I have never failed a class, and I always strive to earn an A. I always try to do my best. In all honesty, I don’t like school much. My favorite class so far this year has to be either French or ACT. A few of my academic strengths are that I’m a great listener, I don’t like to waste time when I could be getting work done, and I check my work a lot to make sure it is correct or near correct. My academic weaknesses are that I won’t ask questions if I need help and most of the time the topics don’t interest me. I like figuring problems out on my own because I learn better that way, but it can be a bad thing if I really don’t understand the problem at all. In those cases, I don’t know where to start fixing my problem. I like math because most of the time the answers are straight forward. I don’t like having to explain myself. I dislike how long it takes to actually solve a problem and I also dislike how long math work can be. My most favorite math experience probably had to be Geometry last year. I understood it well and I was really good at it. To add to that, it was my favorite because I hardly ever had to study. I usually retained the information and my teacher taught the lessons well. I haven’t had a math class I dislike yet. I usually get an A in my math classes because I try to complete all of my work and tests with high grades or points. Before this school year, I would spend thirty minutes max to finish my math homework. This school

In general, I would describe my ability in math as average. I did well in elementary, but middle school was when I started having difficulties. When I took math I, I mostly got B’s and C’s on my tests, because I had a hard time understanding the material, or asking the teacher if I needed help with a certain concept. Overall, I think my average grade for math would be a B, but I would like to improve this year and get an A for a final grade. My parents definitely contributed to my overall success. If I didn’t have their support, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I disliked learning trigonometry and graphing functions. I took math II online, so I wasn’t able to really use a worksheet and graph any problems for myself. I liked the substitution…

I have been interested in science and math since I was reading books with science experiments in second grade. Applying math and science skills to solve everyday problems has intrigued me from an early age. I am always curious about how things work. Since taking AP Physics this year, I have been able to appreciate how math and science work together. I have taken other rigorous courses, but often it felt like learning math was isolated from other coursework. Math challenges me to problem solve and think at a higher level. I also love science, but until I took AP Physics my science classes were too easy. The labs in freshmen and sophomore science were enjoyable, but I never got a sense of how they connected to other concepts in Biology and Chemistry.…

I know that good grades are not everything because if I forget all of the information from the school year, all I will have to show for my high school career is a bunch of arbitrary numbers, however high they might be. I also continue to do learn, even when it may be difficult. This fall, a car ran into my house, destroying a room where I do most of my schoolwork. I obviously could not hand in the destroyed work, but I still made up all of my lost work in a timely manner and did not let my grades suffer. My passion for knowledge also extends outside of school.…

Originally, I did not enjoy math when I was in Vietnam because the teachers focused too much on strict memorization, while giving little attention to applications. However, when I started school in America in my sixth grade year, my passion for math developed. Initially, it was the only subject in which I excelled, due to my disadvantage of not speaking English, but eventually finding an answer to a math problem would become an adventure for me. I never gave up on finding an answer even if it meant working from sun to sun. Throughout my high school years, I have always maintained an A plus in all of my math, science, and Latin courses. Also, I was the student who scored highest in my school, a 98, on the Algebra II End of Course exam. I presently taking College Algebra and…

This semester has been a little difficult for me; I have faced many challenges and still have more to come. Classes have been hard to adjust to but I have tried my hardest and put my best foot forward. The main two classes that I feel I am struggling in right now are English 1000 and Math 1090. I feel these are my hardest classes because English is a weak subject for me and coming into college English is a big step for me. I have a big problem with my writing and the way I word my papers therefore English is a weakness of mine. Math is another weakness of mine because when I learn new things and I don’t understand them I don’t usually tend to ask for help and in math you learn something new every day. I was very good at math…

Everyone wants good grades throughout their years in school, mainly in high school. I am more of a math and science person, other subjects like history and government. Topics like politics, the constitution, the United States Government, political parties and anything else having to do with Government class I had no interest in when I signed up for classes. I know this is something that I should be keeping up to date on because of the upcoming election and everything that changes with the government. The spring of my sophomore year I was looking for different classes to take, I saw AP Government. I thought I could do well in that class, I was motivated to learn something new and excel at something I was not very interested in. The first day of junior year came quickly. Then the first AP government test came even quicker. I studied the night before for hours thinking positive thoughts and finding funny ways to remember different answers. Going into the test I thought I was ready, but when I saw the test I froze. Thinking different thoughts like “When did we learn this?” or “Why did I take this class?”. I pushed all the negative thoughts to the side and completed the test to the best of my ability. The day we got our test back I looked down and about cried. I had never done that bad on a test.…

At first it was extremely tough, my mom moved out of our house, and because of that, I lost my rock. My mom was the one who kept me together and on track, the only shoulder I had to cry on for most of my life, and because of this, I fell hard into a deep depression. School didn’t seem relevant when all of this was happening, so naturally, my motivation, along with my grades, started tumbling downhill. It started with procrastination, but then turned into not turning in homework, not studying, no taking notes, forgetting about presentations, getting signed out early at least once every two weeks, and the occasional selecting random answers on quizzes and tests because “I can bring my grade up later” which I knew I…

I started off strong trying to understand a pattern for my classes and adjustment to my daily schedule like every other student has to do, but I struggled with my studying and time in my day with addition of work. I let myself get too distracted with work as I was worried about financial plans on paying of for school. I let myself be be overloaded in balancing a sleep, study time and personal care. Stress build-up with pressure in my work a attempted to make significant catch-ups in my academic work. These study habits and stress brought me in downfall in my grades. As I was seeing the fall in my grades I grew more worried on now fixing them. As the next semester was in affect I made strides in adjustments to fixing my patterns that kept me from being successful In my classes. With shorter work hours in a week, more hours for studying and additional meeting with my school advisor for academic help, stress and academic struggles still arose for me. This left my grades in very low and unacceptable G.P.A that I was not proud of at all and made me heavily think about changes that need to be done to turn myself back around to the successful student I know I still am.…

The factors that contributed my poor academic performance include but are not limited to: procrastination, disorganization, and a lack of prioritization. Often, throughout the semester, I would put off major assignments until I no longer had any time left to do anything of quality. Another contributor to my performance was my lack of organization. Instead of filing my papers and assignments away neatly, they were left in no particular order or place. The last of my errors involved my lack of prioritization. Many times I chose have fun over completing important assignments. Other times, I chose to go to bed late and in turn over sleep. Recognizing these contributors will help prevent any reoccurrences of my recent performance.…

My daily school routine starts at home. First, I get up from bed early in the morning. I do my morning duties. I wash my face and brush my teeth.
