Max Simkin's 'The Cobbler'
What if you could live another life in someone else’s shoes? If you could change into someone you would like to be? Would you use this advantage to help and save others? In “The Cobbler”, Max Simkin (Adam Sandler) is a sad and lonely guy who works as a cobbler in a shoe shop. Next door to Max’s shop is a barber shop owned by Jimmy (Steve Buscemi). Max lives with his mother Sarah (Lynn Cohen). They both wish they could see Max’s father again.
It was an average day for Max until Leon Ludlow (method man) comes into his store with a 10 ½ size shoe with soles needing to be fixed on them. While trying to repair them Max’s stitching machines fails, so he uses the old one. Curiosity strikes Max and he tries on Ludlow’s shoes. Max is shocked to see

Max transforms into Abraham; his father (Dustin Hoffman) and gives his mom one more night of happiness by having dinner with her. The next morning, Max is devastated to see that his mother had passed away in her sleep.
When Max returns to work Ludlow demands for his shoes back or he’ll kill Max. Max uses his other shoes to disguise himself to follow Ludlow around different places. Ludlow ends up catching Max in the act and strangles him when he sees that Max looks exactly like himself (Max still wearing Ludlows shoes). Max zaps him with a taser that Ludlow had at his apartment.
While Ludlow is unconscious, Max (still in Ludlows shoes) takes care of some of Ludlow’s buisness disguised as a transexual woman that wears stilettos. When Max finishes with all of Ludlow’s business he goes back to Ludlow’s apartment. Ludlow attacks Max (the transexual woman wearing stilettos) and while fighting Max takes off one of the stiletto's and turned back to his normal self. Ludlow freaked out and Max accidently kicks him in the throat and ends up killing him from the stiletto. Max leaves the apartment and goes to turn himself into the police, but when the police go back to the apartment the body was gone and the blood was cleaned

Max is not like typical female characters in other general books, like those that are flimsy and girlish. Max stands at the highest point of the hierarchy that she belongs, and needs to act as the leader, as the one who can take control of what is happening around her. She somewhat reminds me of Katniss in the book “Hunger Games”. Both girls are under immense pressure of substantial dangers and need to step over the level of being a “girl” into a individual being that can take hold of oneself and others. At the start of the story, Max has a straightforward goal of searching for her flock’s parents, and is able to pull her flock through many dangers with the help of the hope in her mind. However, towards the end, Max and the rest of the flock realize how the searching of their parents is completely useless. With her goal perished, Max temporarily falls into a state of distress and hopelessness. Nevertheless, Max soon trounces the dilemma and return to her original self-assertive character, even a…

In order for the novel to progress, certain conflicts must be solved. The first conflict is the order of how Fezzik and Inigo will get Max to perform his miracle. In the novel, he goes back and forth between his wife, Valerie, and Fezzik and Inigo. He and Valerie decide if Inigo and Fezzik can pay the price of at least 50, he will work his miracle. However, they are able to pay up to the price of 65, and Max still refuses them. In the movie, he just states that he has never worked for such a small amount of money. The one exception was for a very noble cause. One conflict solved, one more to go. Now they have to convince Max that it is a noble cause. In the book, Inigo convinces him when he tells him, “If you bring him back to life, he will stop Prince Humperdinck’s marriage…. Humiliations galore” (Goldman, 1973). In the novel, Inigo tells Max that Westley will stop Humperdinck’s marriage if he brings him back to life. Once the conflicts are solved, everyone gets…

Before Maxwell and Kevin became close friends, Max was known as an impulsive, violent, and unsafe individual because of his careless actions. Max had even said himself, “I had a way of saying things with my fists and my feet” confirming that he expressed his feelings quite physically. Nevertheless, when the boys became one as Freak the Mighty, it influenced the way Maxwell dealt with things. For example, he learned to control his temper and using his incredibly great speed and strength to protect his loved ones. In other words, he developed a skill to use his strengths rightfully. Furthermore, Freak constantly encouraged Maxwell to do well in his education. This helped Max overcome his negative mindset on how he was brainless and never attempted to try by using his Learning Disorder as an excuse.…
