Maya The Bee Character Analysis
In the “Maya the bee” I like a lot of characters such as Flip the grasshopper, Miss Cassandra an adult bee and the little Ben the bung beetle, but the most character that I like is the little bee whose name Maya. This bee was born in the hive along with Willy; Maya’s best friend and other bees. Since she born, she was not like other bees, she was very curious about what beyond the hive. She is a smart and very kind bee. All the bees love her, but unintentionally she brought a lot of troubles to the hive. For thus, the bees were annoyed by her unacceptable behaviors. Later, she believed that she did not belong to the hive anymore. She felt resentful about living in the hive and doing the regular bees’ duties. At that point she knew that she had to convince the queen to let her leave the hive. The problem was: asking to …show more content…
The queen was shocked by this unpredictable request. Then, Maya had been given the admission to living in the meadow. After she left the hive, she met judge Beeswax, who demanded Maye either to return to the hive or he would send her away from whole of the meadow, but she refused going back to the hive. The decision of sending Maye away was made by judge Beeswax who refused the notion of living bees out the hive. Maya faced a such hard time because she did not to leave her home. In the meanwhile, a group of wasps attacked the hive to stealing the honey. Quickly, Maya and her friends went to save the hive and rescue Miss Cassandra who was about to attacked by the wasps. Therefore, judge beeswax changed his mind about sending Maya away. In the meadow, Maya faced a lot of problems such as other insects’ attacks or any dangers that threat the hive, but she always was able to solve the problems successfully with her intelligence and her insight despite her young

The theme is the second section (chapter 3 and 4) of The Secret life of the Bees by Sue Monk Kidd is that the prejudice of others can weigh heavily on an individual’s judgement. Lily has finally found her next clue which has brought her to the Boatwright sisters. They are highly successful beekeepers that happen to be black. Due to being raised by a father who “did not think colored women were smart” (78), she is surprised by August being “intelligent” (78) and “so cultured” (78). This displays the role of the others in this case her dad who has influenced her to look down on blacks because that’s what he was taught. Although Lily comes to the realization that she had “some prejudice buried inside [her]” (78), many do not. Many fail to question…

In this novel you really get to see how bad racism once was. And how Maya dealt with it. Smart and imaginative, Maya nevertheless feels that people judge her unfairly due to her awkward appearance. Feeling misunderstood, she always puts herself in a nice mind set. She imagines she is an attractive blonde hair blue eyed girl. Maya describes her social and familial displacement as “unnecessary insults” on top of the general difficulties associated with growing up as a black girl in the segregated American South. The South presents Maya with three tremendous obstacles:…

In order to show this, Kidd builds on the hive and bees as a metaphor of life. Bees represent people working together in a society, which is represented by the hive. "The queen, for her part, is the unifying force of the community; if she is removed from the hive, the workers very quickly sense her absence. After a few hours, or even less, they show unmistakable signs of queenlessness" (3). The beehive has been known in history to represent the soul, death, and rebirth. The hive is presided over by the queen, or mother-figure. In explaining that bees have secret lives that are not immediately perceptible, August speaks metaphorically of people. As the plot progresses, we learn that almost every character has an explanation for his or her actions that cannot be seen immediately. We know that Lily is pretending to be someone that she is not in order to find out about her mother. We learn that May is so emotional because of her twin's suicide (142). August tells Lily that T. Ray was not always the cruel man he is now. He was once tender and sweet and become embittered when Deborah died (201). Lily also finds out that her mother was not the perfect women she imagined. Throughout this story, Lily learns people, like the bees, are often motivated by forces that cannot be understood…

Her refusal to put herself back into the unwanted situations goes as,“What did you say?’‘I said I’m not leaving.”(Kidd 296). Living with the Boatwright sisters gives Lily all the things she missed when she was living with T.Ray, so she wasn’t just going to let go of her ideal life and go back to a miserable one. Lily just like the bee, decided to stay where she was cared for. As when Lily had first opened the jar the bee stayed where it was comfortable and taken care of, instead of joining the rest of the swarm in working for every day of it’s life. In the same way Lily chooses to stay where she’s comfortable and taken care of at the Boatwright house, instead of going back to T.Ray and having to work for her…

The first event that has a significant effect on Maya is the discovery that she was willfully given up by her parents. This discovery leads Maya to feel betrayed, and alienated from the rest of her family. This new knowledge leads her to see that not only was she given up by choice, but also the self-doubt that causes her to ask herself what she did wrong to deserve it. “The gifts opened doors to questions that neither of us wanted to ask. Why did they send us away? and What did we do so wrong? So wrong?” (Angelou 53). This introduction of self-doubt and feelings of alienation are what set up the opportunity for future tragedies and painful events in Maya’s life.…
