Jon was comparing McCunn experiences in the wild to that of McCandless.McCunn was barely surviving on what he had and was getting really worried. Carlos was in the coldest part of Alaska and he didn't have the skills to get out. Carlos wasn't prepared or trained to endure the cold conditions and did not have the skills that were required in order to get out. “He was just a party boy.”
Analysis of Passage # 3:
This quote conveys the author's message because it show that even though McCandless wasn't prepared professionally on how to endure the wilderness he survived for a long time relying solely on his skills. Jon wasn't sure why McCandless had survived as long as she did. Jon said that McCandless wasn't one to conform
to the stereotype that people have given him.Krakauer did not believe that McCandless was a crazy person. He believed that McCandless was an explorer that loved the outdoors and nature. Krakauer's believed McCandless wanted to explore the meaning of life. He wanted to enjoy it in solitary with no people, sounds, or vehicles.McCandless took a risk by going into the wilderness untrained but it was his dream and he was going to do what he had set his mind to do.Even though people thought he was crazy for doing all the things he did but to him it was rational.
