Distinctively visual is language that shows visually the similarities and differences between characters. We may also perceive a distinct visual image from setting and characters. The language used in the text will provide visual examples of setting, characters and time. Short stories create meaning within texts, about others and the surrounding world. This is shown in Henry Lawson’s short stories “The Drover’s Wife” and ”In the dry season” as well as the poem “Nesting time” by Douglas Stewart and the German film Run Lola Run directed by Tom Tykwer.…

When I arrived at LL:30 AM DD was ready to go to the Library, Bridges main office, dairy queen, and OCTC for school. DD is currently completing her school work. DD has been well behaved and polite. DD had a Sundae and a Double Cheeseburger. I redirected DD to making healthy choice by saying, "DD is it healthy to eat a sundae? Do you think we can pick something else?" DD ate the sundae and informed me her dad did not allow her to splurge yesterday with a cookie, but she was able to with her own money. DD and I will be going to Kroger to buy her healthy foods. DD agreed to eating Vegetable soup for dinner tonight. 4-H is a program set up by the United States Department of Agriculture originally in rural areas to help young people become productive citizens by instructing them in useful skills, community service, and personal development. To me 4-h is not only that, but it is a lifestyle. 4h is not something a person can just chose to do one day and become the best, they would have to have the passion and commitment for the lifestyle. The 4h clover is the main symbol for 4-H. The four H’s represent the words head, heart, hands, and health. This coincides with the 4h pledge which states, “I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, and my health to better living, for my club, my community, my country and my world.” This pledge is a constant reminder in my life that everything I do is affecting everyone around me.…

In the opening line, the speaker meditates on death and his mortality through the use of clock imagery. The speaker actively engages in counting; “I do count the clock”, which emphasises the process of time passing. In the early modern period, clocks served as a reminder of the brevity of earthly life, and were often inscribed with Latin mottos emphasising the passing of time in relation to death. This use of clock imagery throughout the Renaissance period signals a cultural preoccupation with time in relation to death, and the temporal process of degeneration and decay. This is synonymous with the literal physical decay of bodies in death. By situating death in the realm of the physical and natural world, it may cease to be fearful. Furthermore,…

She is the glue which keeps our family together. Her sacrifices and efforts for our family are countless. I vividly remember the time when I was nine, when both my mother and father were working. I used to come back from school in the afternoon and just so that I didn’t feel scared or alone after coming from school, she used to drive all the way from her office and back to the house in the one hour rest break that she had. In this time she would clean me up, give me food, and put me in bed before leaving back for office. The little kiss on the forehead that she used to give me before leaving for her office again was the most precious thing for me at that…
