Meditation
In the last 2 months, I was personally struggling to concentrate on my studies due to the emotional turmoil. So, I was trying some ways to calm down my senses and also improve my concentration. Therefore, I was hoping to learn various techniques of controlling mind from the meditation class so that I could develop high level of concentration. One thing crossed my mind before the class is the feeling of insecurity and nervousness, mainly because of the fact that I am unable to open up with people in first meeting. I was also concerned about any negative effects in case I fail to follow all the rules of meditation. So, I attended the meditation class with a definite purpose of learning the process of developing a focused mind and ability to enhance my concentration level. The class i attend is offered on GW campus, and our instructor is Professor Malfitano on Friday from 1:00pm- 2:50 pm. The meditation class was not emotionally or physically challenging for me. In fact, the meditation process that was taught in the class did not involve any rigorous physical activities. Moreover, the techniques that were taught for meditation were easy to understand and enjoyable.
I felt relaxed and happy during and post meditation class. All the nervousness and insecurity shaded away as the ambience was quite soothing and fellow classmates were quite friendly and welcoming. At the beginning of the class, I thought of learning only about certain techniques of meditation; however at the end I learned a lot of theoretical knowledge, techniques and specific outcomes related to meditation.
I found out that the power of meditation is potentially high and its efficacy is far reaching in long-term perspective. Only with the aid of meditation, one can even change the course of life towards betterment. Therefore, the first session of the meditation turned out to be comprehensive and highly beneficial.     Descartes talked about the true and the false, and how we make mistakes in Meditation Four. Descartes believed that error as such is not something real that depends upon God, but rather is merely a defect. And thus there is no need to account for my errors by positing a faculty given to me by God for this purpose(546). He thought that the reason why we make mistakes is that the faculty of judging the truth, which we got from God, is not infinite(546). When Descartes focused more closely on more closely on himself and inquired into the nature of his errors, he noted that errors depend on the simultaneous concurrence of two causes: intellect and will(547). He didn’t believe that God ought to have given us a greater faculty of knowing than he did(547). So we cannot make no mistakes like God. Then Descartes raised a question that can he complain that the will or free choice he have received from God is insufficiently ample or perfect(547). After using paragraphs talking about it, Descartes perceived that the power of willing is not the cause of his errors, for it is most ample as well as perfect in its kind(548). This idea is similar to Augustine’s ides in On Free Choice of the Will. Then he thought if he held off from making a judgment when he do not perceive what is true with sufficient clarity and distinctness, it is cleat that he was acting properly and not committing an error(548). In the end, he said he would indeed attain it if only he paid enough attention to all the things that he perfectly understand, and separate them off from the rest, which he apprehended more confusedly and more obscurely(549).…

    What really caught my eye were the three Buddha statues where we were going to have the service. The statues looked like they were made of gold but I just thinking it was the lighting. As I entered I felt a sense of calmness it was very different than a Christian church. In a Christian church I always felt tense or felt uneasy because of all the people jumping around singing songs like some type of indigenous tribes. On the other hand going to a catholic church always made me feel guilty or depressed. Being in this temple was different I actually felt welcomed while everyone was calm and collected and not bouncing off the walls. As we entered the area where they have the service we had to sit down on these cushions and after a little bit of talking they started the meditation. We repeated nam-myoho-renge-kyo over and over with a little bit of different words mixed in during the meditation. While doing it I was constantly feeling this sense of euphoria it felt like I was in a trace with everyone joining in. honestly, it felt weird because I never had a sensation like that before and just like that it was over. An hour passed and I didn’t even notice my legs were cramped but my body felt like it was floating, I actually thought I did some black magic or something but everyone was a cheerful mood.     When we did yoga on Thursday during class time, it was so much fun. I had never done yoga before and I thought it was going to be hard, but it actually came very easy to me. It worked out every core in my body, especially in the abdominal area. I had imagined before I did yoga that I was going to be out of breathe a lot, but then again I didn’t really know what yoga consisted of. I think we did it, to work out our muscles and joints in our body. Every body is different, so every body had a different reaction to the yoga session. Yoga defines itself as a science – that is, as a practical, precise, and systematic discipline or set of techniques that have the lofty goal of helping human beings to become aware of their deepest nature. It connects us to our faith and self and brings us to peace and freedom during that time. We lose all connections to the outside world and just concentrate on ourselves and who we are. Yoga is more than just an exercise to get your physical body fit and healthy, proper practice of yoga is intended at bringing mind, body and soul in perfect harmony. The reason this fits in with the definition of health is because yoga brings you happiness and you become content with yourself and nothing can bring you down, you feel invincible or that’s how I felt at the time. I felt at peace, and didn’t want the session to end. It was rejuvenating to me and for others as well. You need to go in there with a good attitude, and I think that will make a difference on how you feel when you do yoga. Dr. Bogus was an excellent instructor, and she made the class a lot of fun. Everyone was in tune with what she was saying and didn’t want to stop. For some people it was a little tough for them, but they still got by and they felt happy and worked out.
