Memo: the Retreat and Corporate Team Building
Memo that informs: Corporate Team Building in Alberta.

You are the coordinator of staff development for Imperial Oil. It has been recently announced that Imperial Oil is moving its headquarters from Toronto to Calgary. The news has been greeted positively by employees, but a few are unhappy while others already working in the Calgary office are unsure how well the amalgamation of the two offices with their different cultures will go. Recognizing the feeling of uncertainty, you decide to hold a series of corporate team-building retreats shortly after the headquarters move to Calgary. The retreat will be led by the Great Canadian Adventure Company. Employees will meet in downtown Calgary at 8:00 a.m. and buses will pick them up and take them to the Sylvan Lake area. There, they will spend the day on team-building like map-reading exercises that will require employee teams to find their way through a wooded area to a “home base” where lunch will be served. The group will return to downtown to Calgary by 7:00 p.m.

Your task. As the coordinator of staff development, write a memo to all employees announcing the retreat. You recognize the fact that there may be some friction between the “new” people from Toronto and the long-time Calgary employees.

In two weeks, the organization will be merging with a national conglomerate and it is our job to get the "troops prepared", as she put it. She stresses to us the importance of effective leadership and communication. She would like for us to establish and initiate a plan that will help the employees with the transition. Luckily for us, we just completed a seminar on organizational behavior and we know exactly what needs to be done to make this transition as positive and seamless as possible.…

    Team Leadership Memo Mgt

In accordance with the company’s initiative toward entering a new marketplace, I have been asked to create this memo. Recently, I have been paired into a team with the assignment to meet the goals and expectations of the company. I, Albert Johnson, will team with Anthony Buglisi, Yoshika Middlebrooks, Timothy Ray and Latesha Wilkinson in order to attain the goals assigned to our group. We share a lot of similarities, while at the same time, maintain a status of being diverse individuals. By looking at the type of people we are, I think the best approach for us would be along the lines of a democratic atmosphere around our ideas around leadership. The similarities of our group can allow for an easier time for agreement on various subjects. However, the differences in approach between us will help illuminate what the main issues are; that need addressing. Whereas Timothy and I are very creative on our toes for solutions, we sometimes are willing to take risks that could be detrimental to the company without our knowing. This is where Anthony and Yoshika’s worth comes especially in this group. Any idea that pops up can be disputed and dissected for its pros and cons by Anthony and Yoshika. Latesha’s value to the group is that she’s highly persuasive. Whatever idea the group decides to agree on, Latesha is convincing enough to sell the ideas to fellow employees for support and execution, our managers for approval and to our customers for patronage. However, Latesha won’t just promote any type of idea that we, as a group, come up with. It needs to make sense and be the best possible product for the group. Now this is not to state that Timothy can’t convince people to buy into any idea, or that Latesha won’t be of any help in any type of conversation on whether an idea works. I’m only pointing out the biggest strengths of each team member. A group with democratic leadership allows for communication between all members of the group. Yoshika…

    Team Dynamics and Change

The purpose of this annotated bibliography is to demonstrate the effect of Team dynamics and change. In many terms, team dynamics is focused on mutual interaction among the team members, their actions, and responses. Therefore, the rapidly changing work environment and adaptation to the changes are the major facts leading to the switch of the comfort zones and fear of the possible changes within almost all the levels of the organization. The theories of Kurt Lewinee and Bruce Tuckman are reviewed by the modern authors and conclusions are made about the modern implications of these theories. The annotation in this bibliography consists of two quantitative research articles. One of the articles examines the aspects of social psychology and its effects on group dynamics. The author of the articles identifies Lewine’s change processes. Specifically, Cartwright identifies that change in the workplace could be identified as both positive and negative outcome; therefore, he provides eight principles that support Lewine’s theory. According to the author, the practical application of group dynamics consists of knowledge about what unites the group, what modifies them, and what consequences they have. The findings were not supported by the qualitative research. Bonebright (2010) analyses Tuckman’s team dynamics model (forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning) and its effect on groups in the workplace. The author agrees that Tuckman’s team dynamics model is easy to understand and flexible to apply in diverse settings. However, no theory developed from this theory was demonstrated. In overall, these two articles analyse the theories of team dynamics and change and focus on the application of these theories in the modern environment.…
