Memoir
I am most certain that the majority of students have or had a friend they have known for years. Someone they can be themselves around without any judgment. Well, I used to have a special friend similar to the described description. My former friend was one of those friends who are difficult to find and lucky to have. He and I had an abundance of similar interest. Unfortunately, all great things must come to an end, and this friendship was at its end. At this very day, I am still wondering as to what happened to our perfect friendship. I may never know the reason, however, I can bring some clarity into my understanding of this discontinued friendship. Throughout this memoir, I will describe my friendship with Anthony, analyze it through many perspectives, and compare how I felt three years ago to my current feelings. About eleven odd years ago, a special friend came into my life by the name of Anthony. I met him when I was eleven years old, in the sixth grade. I had come home from school and decided I wanted to play outside with the neighborhood kids. As I was playing, a skinny Filipino boy randomly appeared and threw an inanimate object toward me. The object hit my back, and I decided I would throw something toward him for revenge. I decided I would take off one of the earrings I wore that day and throw it at him. I took off my earring and Anthony knew what was about to happen, so he ran away from me. I began running toward him, with the earring in my left hand. Once I got close enough to Anthony, I threw the earring at him. The earring I threw hit him in the back. Once I knew the earring landed on my target, my work was finished. Ever since that particular moment eleven years ago, Anthony and I were best friends. Anthony and I remained friends throughout middle and high school. He and I shared many commonalities which prolonged our friendship. One commonality we shared was our interest for food. Anthony and I enjoyed eating at different places around San

The main issues of the memoir genre are that you cannot verify the veracity of the information given in memoirs, as well as a lack of effort in concealing the identities used in the stories. This leads to questions of nonfiction and the writer's integrity, as well as issues between publishers and people who feel victimized by portrayals of them in memoirs. However, memoirs are a captivating type of literature for all who would like to enjoy a story of other’s struggles.…

I learned from the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson that friendship is tender and brutal event. When Melinda loses all her friends at a party just before she starts high school due to a grave of misunderstanding, she’s forced to reevaluate the nature of friendship. This story teaches me that friendship can change overtime and people can change too. This proves that you should trust no one because one day people can hurt you and let you down without knowing the true part of the story. In the book, everyone hates Melinda when she didn’t mean any harm, she just made the right choice.…

The hot sun was beating down on my neck as I was picking weeds in a field. The humidity is so thick you could cut it with a knife. The smell of grass was in the air. My soft hands were getting blistered. My skin had been browned as it was covered in dirt. I hated my parents for making me do this. A man comes over and asks me to make sure that I don’t miss any. This man was my grandfather. My parents had me dropped me off while they were at my sister's softball game. I was stuck working with my grandfather for the day. He had owned two houses right next to each other, each with a large lot that needed to be maintained. There was a lot of weeds to be picked. This scene happened all too often when I was younger. I did not like this at the time and hated my parents for making me do this work. But working with my grandfather taught me character and work ethic. He himself was a hard worker and wanted me to be like him. I did not understand this at the time and just did not want to be there. In the long run I learned a lot of valuable skills from my grandfather and he became one my most influential role models.…

Six-word Memoir is a scheme originally established by a U.S founded storytelling publication. The publication aimed at presenting a podium for storytelling in all its kinds. For instance, ‘I can’t keep my own secrets’ is a six word memoir that depicts an individual’s tendency to reveal chief secrets or significant past moments in their lives. On the other hand, when I say ‘Alcohol has utterly ruined my life’, then I am simply trying to inform the reader of my continued abuse of alcohol and my bitter…

It was a well-known fact at Sherwood Middle School that on Wednesday, September 23, Mr. Bowman officially accepted a BFF request from Mr. Mantalas. It seemed that the two teachers from different ends of the teaching spectrum were an unlikely but content duo. No one thought to ask the unthinkable: Would it last? As it turned out, no. The worst occurred between them. Mr. Bowman coldly stopped the friendship, leaving Mr. Mantalas dejected as the two grew apart. According to an interview with Bowman where he reflected on his…

Those who are opposed to the idea of men and women playing baseball together, often defend their argument with the belief that women are not physical capable of participating in sports. In addition they often entice the belief that women are more susceptible to injury than men. This is not a valid reason to exclude women and there is an abidance of research that refutes this claim. In addition to excluding women based on their sex, the sport of baseball is connected to racial segregation. It was believed that baseball was a white man's sport and only men who were white possessed the ability to play the sport. This ideology has filtered into present society, resulting in a few number of African Americans or people of color who participate in the sport. With that being said race is absolutely a factor in whether or not women can play baseball with men. Women who are not white are seen as inferior and they are not expected to be successful in playing baseball. There are great deal of stereotypes that surround race and a person's athletic ability. These stereotypes have been around since the "Americanization" of baseball and traces of them are still evident today. Physical size and strength, the possibility of injuries, and the color of one's skin have been used as strong reasons to prohibit women and girls from entering the world of baseball, all of these claims are absurd and false, these issues should not just be associated women due to their biological sex. Women regardless of race are just as capable as men to participate in the sport of baseball. We can alleviate and erase these myths surrounding the inferiority of women and the superiority of men in the arena of sports. To solve this problem we must start early, we must preparing girls early to have the ability and skill to play baseball amongst their male counterparts.…

My first day on the bus, I met a very important person to me. She would soon become the closest friend I would ever have. We shared a name, the interest in video games, and the hobby of drawing. But, other than that, we were very different. She liked white milk and hated chocolate (a.k.a “tainted milk”). I was the opposite. I enjoyed the company of dogs, she was obsessed with cats. But, differences aside, we enjoyed sitting together during lunch and just doodling all over each other's agendas and notebooks. We never really had any classes together, aside from homeroom together.…

During my sixth grade year, my best friend Jesus and I met two people who would later become two of our closest friend. Their names are Cesar and David. Two years after we met Cesar moved away and would visit whenever he could. Every time Cesar would visit Jesus, David and I would go to the movies to hang out. Jesus and David were always the more active and spontaneous ones in the group while I was more calm and thought out than them. Cesar was somewhere in the middle, being calm yet very active when he wanted to be. The movie we watched was never really important or memorable, the theatre was a location where we could go for a few hours and hang out without parents over our shoulders. I don’t really remember most of the movies we went to watch,…

In March 2011, I took a few days of classes and received my hunting education certification. Looking back, the actual class time is just a blur of what not to do, but I was reminded of them when I took drivers education last December, with the what not to do teachings. I also remember being very nervous about the test, but having a great feeling when I learned I passed. That October, I remember being immensely excited to go on my first hunt. The night before my dad and I left, I had a parent teacher conference and I remember getting some strange looks in the parking lot because we had a trailer loaded with tents, four wheelers, chairs, and a bunch of other stuff…

My love for computers has been with me for as long as I can remember. The passion started with my father giving me a flash drive. It was a 1GB flash drive, and I would carry it everywhere, and put everything on it. Because I could not carry my computer with me to school, but could carry my flash drive, I sought ways to make a portable operating system that could be as portable as me. That’s is where Ubuntu came in. Ubuntu is a free community-driven operating system coded in Linux. It is very robust when it comes to development tools, and I started tooling with simple level Terminal coding. Since I didn’t need Ubuntu on my laptop, I installed Windows. I was cool with the Windows version of Terminal (Command Prompt, cmd.exe) I wanted…

I made some good friends that I would still know for many years, but my awkwardness persisted. I stopped drawing as much, and instead spent more time reading and playing games. My favorite book genre at the time was fantasy and fiction (And still is, mostly). I enjoyed how fantasy stories laid out the story for the audience, but still left it up to the reader to interpret the words and form the imagery in their own mind. As for my favorite games, I enjoyed games with an excellent story, or games that allowed creative freedom. Unfortunately, my enjoyment of games would only last a few more years. But I still had my books. Anyways, near the end of my time at Edendale, I made some good friends. Some of them I met at school, and others I met on the internet (from mutual interests). There was no real major development around this time, so lets jump into my high school…
