Memorable Moments with My Sibling

Essay Assignment # 1
Final Draft #1 Memorable moments with my sibling A relationship with a sibling is everlasting: last longer than the bond with a spouse, parent, or friend. Have you ever thought about the times you have spent with your siblings? Those are memorable moments that I would always cherish. The bond with my sibling taught me many lessons in life. My childhood relationship with my sibling has changed since I became an adult. The communication and the people we associate with had changed between us. During any oppression we had gone through, our love still remains the same.
Since adolescence my younger sister, Genesis, and I were inseparable. We were like the cartoon characters Tom and Jerry. Genesis used to tell me everything; I was like her secret diary. For example, Genesis would come home to our two bedroom apartment from Attucks Middle school and used to tell me how wonderful or miserable her day went. When she had a delightful day coming home would be satisfying and a little annoying for me. She would tell me how stunning a boy was in her class and was disturbing for me. I didn’t want to hear about her Prince Charming. However, you could tell when she had a dreadful day, she would come home slamming the front door and leaving an echo in the vague hallway. She would run to our cluttered room and jump on her twin size bed. Walking towards her I could hear her calling my name “Eric”. I said “Genesis are you feeling ok, what’s wrong?” Genesis said “There is a boy in my math class calling me a nerd.” I would then comfort her by giving her a hug and tell her not 2 to worry. ”You know what they call nerds in the future? Boss! ” I said. Genesis always felt safe around me I was there to protect her from any harm like a father figure. However, I joined the United States Army; our molded relationship

The short stories “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst and “My Brother’s Keeper” by Jay Bennet are both realistic examples of family dynamics and how they can affect the way siblings treat each other. “The Scarlet Ibis” demonstrates how older siblings tend to feel the need to assist or help their younger siblings in things they cannot do, often leaving the younger siblings codependent on the older siblings for everything. In comparison, “My Brother’s Keeper” demonstrates how trauma can lead to siblings leaching to each other and becoming reliant, more often one more than the other. Even when two people are not siblings but are close, one person can become codependent on the other, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is the prime example of this.…

Sibling rivalry is not too hard to find, but rarely does it reach an extreme level because the smaller probability of multiple siblings leads to adolescents that are more capable of handling relationships with peers, since they were not treated with any injustice due to their sibling, such as when a child has to give up their room, for their younger…

On February 26th, 2003 yet another girl joined the rest of the 7 billion individuals who inhabit the outer crust of a rather large sphere. She was given the name Ella Grace, she was not named for a grandmother or a Historical figure, but for the fact that her mother favored the arrangement of words for its beauty. Ella Grace, unsurprisingly, is yours truly. After I was able to be out-and-about in the world, I was brought to my initial home by my mother and father. Four years I spent living blithely and harmoniously with my parents and roommate, who was a stuffed animal, but I believe he still counts. Alas, all good must come to an end, or at least I'm told they must, for my parents split like a banana, and traveled to their respected cities…

One interview was of my own sibling and the other an identical twin that I went to high school with. Dakota Chaney, my twin brother, describes out relationship as being very loving. He states, “I genuinely care about my sister and I know that she cares about me. It’s not how people think it is. In fact, I think there’s less of a sibling rivalry between us than just regular siblings.” Dakota’s experiences have contradicted the typical stereotype of it being “so terrible” to have a twin. He says that his sibling relationship is quite enjoyable and not that bad. In fact, Dakota states, “My family and even strangers don’t realize how close we are. I think that sometimes they get confused and mix up our kind of sibling relationship with those who aren’t twins. Not to reverse stereotype, but siblings who are not twins seem to be more distant and fight a lot more. With my sister and I, this isn’t the case.” This isn’t to say that twins don’t argue at all. We still have our tiffs, but they are few and far between due to how close we are to each other. Going through the same situations and problems and helping each other find solutions helps twins to become very close and may even contribute to their lack of fighting rather than what most would think of as causing an…

My essay is about the power of siblings. Both in The outsiders and my essay Siblings bond over death or the thought of death. In The Outsiders Ponyboy and his brothers, including the greasers bonded over the death of his parents and Jonny, their good friend. It’s sad but true, people tend to get closer when they realize how short life is. My brother and I bonded over the fact that we would have to help my mom together. Being able to have someone there for you can give you a sense of safety because believe or not the closest person in your life should be your sibling. I feel bad for people who don’t have older siblings or lost them because they will never know what it’s like to have someone who already went through what you’re going through.…

Frank Bruni’s experience with his family in “The Gift of Siblings” is typical of most American’s. He makes a strong case for the significance of having close relationships over a lifetime. For instance “Siblings are the only relatives and perhaps the only people you’ll ever know, who are with you through the entire arc of your life” (Bruni 21-22). Frank Bruni believes that your siblings are with you during the most important phases in your life. They’re there during and a part of your fondest memories while growing up and finding yourself. Your siblings follow you throughout life, seeing and supporting important mile stones and challenges.…

Just entering high school I was finally starting to become actually close to my brother. He is five years older than I am, so we were just starting to transition from the sibling-rivalry stage to the civilized relationship that a brother and sister develop when they realize that no matter what family will always be there until the very end. Our conversations had just started to expand from “nice face, loser” to “hey, you want to catch a bite to eat?” That was not the only impact that my brother had on who I was and what I was to base this life on for the rest of my being.…

I was sitting in my grandfather’s dark house, sitting in front of my father’s big stereo with his huge gray Sony headphones listening to his Boys II Men cd. I feel a tap on my shoulder; I turn around and it’s my father. He said, “Come outside, dad’s going to teach you how to change the oil in the truck.” The first thing that came to my mind was why in the world would I want to learn how to change oil in a car. I am only 11 and I don’t have a car. My mom would always say “ Felicia before you were born your father wanted you to be a boy so he didn’t want to know the sex of the baby. He wanted to be surprised because he just knew you were going to be a boy.” I figured hey I guess this was the closest he would get so I always went a long with it. On top of that I was a tomboy so I guess it made it easier for him to ask me to come learn about something…

It is imperative that I take sibling relationships into account when counseling children. Disruptions in the lives of siblings can cause disruptions in the life of my client, and it is important to investigate all aspects of a client’s family in order to best help them. In my initial intake with students, it may be beneficial to gather information about the structure of the child’s family so that I can be better informed and prepared. As I found in my research, having siblings can influence everything from motor skills to social skills, and it is an aspect of children’s lives that should not be…

Growing up with my mom things were pretty blunt, DON’T do things you know you have no business doing. My sister Nyla and I were like two peas in a pod, we did everything together and often defended one another so it was fair for my mom to assume that if something bad happened we both were in on it and she would spank us. At the time I thought it was horrible, I look back now at the stories and I laugh.…
