Date: 13 June 2012
To: Mr Patrick Song, Chief Executive Officer
From: Mr Gilliette Lim, Director of Customer Service Operations
Subject: RECOMMENDATION REPORT OF ENHANCING CUSTOMER SERVICE

At your request, I am submitting this report detailing my recommendations to improve the quality of services in Pizza Hut Inc. My recommendations are based on my own experience, observations and feedbacks that are given by our customers.
Background
Pizza Hut is a well-known pizza restaurant located around the globe in terms of the number of outlets and percentage of market share among the fast food restaurants. In United States, there are about 6,200 restaurants and in other 100 countries, more than 4,000 restaurants. Dan and Frank Carney, the original founder of Pizza Hut, opened the first Pizza Hut restaurant in 1958 in their hometown of Wichita, Kansas. Today, the Pizza Hut is owned by Yum! Brand, Inc. Pizza Hut is famous in its various choices of toppings and its signature crusts. Nevertheless, recently we have received a lot of complaints from customers. Therefore, issues and problems have detected and solutions are provided to deal with the problems.
Problems
Although “Pizza Hut” has made a lot of improvement but they still have not meet the customers’ high expectation. One of the concerns is the poor quality of service in Pizza Hut. Customers complained about the Pizza Hut’s slow and tardy services which are very time consuming.
Besides, customers complained about the rude attitude of the employees. Customers are not bothered when they request for service. Food hygiene is also one of the problems that has been neglected by our company. This causes dissatisfaction of customers and affects our company reputation.
On top of that, poor delivery service is one of the hottest issues that are currently discussed in our customer feedback website. Customers are not able to enjoy their food due to the poor delivery service rendered.

More and more people are enjoying the convenience and ease of dining out or ordering in. It has become socially predominant for individuals to enjoy casual dining experiences. Pizza Hut is largely portrayed as a family restaurant offering quality food, reasonable prices, and a memorable experience. However, customers are more likely than before to demand additional choices and typically view the experience of dining out as a social event. Companies are very interested in ensuring that customers are happy with the performance of a product or the quality of service because it will affect future purchase decisions. In fact, quality may be the most important of the customer satisfaction objectives because the consequences of a bad product or poorly performed service are virtually impossible to overcome. In our case the problem is not exactly with the product but with the service. The service is poor because Tony Lagera, the service…

The staff are very well trained and hold a very high customer service attitude. When you are in the park the speed and accuracy of service is 5*, you are served with high customer service and very quickly, I noticed that the queue in a food outlet was very long and within 10 minutes the queue had become just one person waiting for their food, I also noticed that not one person had returned to the counter to return a product or complain, this shows that the speed and accuracy of the service is perfect, there is always room for improvement within the business but I can honestly say that I could not pick fault on this particular subject.…

Pizza Hut makes different kinds of pizza and presents special offers each day. The product utilizes an assembly line process where the pizza is prepared after passing through various steps. According to Lerner & Lerner (2008), “an assembly line is a manufacturing system of mass production in which a finished product is manufactured in a step-by-step process involving interchangeable parts added in a sequential manner as it moves continuously past an arrangement of workers and machines” (p. 343). The pizza starts with making dough that is usually ready made by machines. The dough is fresh and its ingredients are of high quality; it is made daily to ensure freshness and good quality. Then the dough is placed on a pan and the employee adds the fresh and clean ingredients, vegetables, and toppings according to each customer’s taste. Later, the pizza is put in the oven where an employee will take care of it and make sure it is baked well. Once the pizza is baked well it is served to the customer. Moreover, to ensure customer satisfaction, the employees at Pizza hut are well trained and polite. Each customer is served according to turn; in other words, the customer that comes first is served first. The employees at Pizza Hut treat customers in good manners; they are so helpful and respectful.…

Jose’s Authentic Mexican Restaurant noticed that tips that waiters were receving were on a drop off also wait times for meals were also taking 20 minutes instead of the normal 12 minutes during peak hours. Management conducted customer surveys during busy hours and received some unfavorable results. The problem with Jose’s Authentic Mexican Restaurant is their service failures and a lack of a systematic approach to analyzing these services. Without a systematic approach to analyzing processes, Jose’s is dropping off on their services and not meeting customer expectations. In creating a systematic approach for Jose’s the service failures became clear. To solve this problem in the short term, the company needs to redesign their processes by hiring additional cooks as well as making sure that these new processes are implemented on a timely schedule. Long term the company should look into adding a proper waiting area where customers are more comfortable waiting for a table. They should also look into adding a bar where those customers who are waiting for tables can purchase drinks.…

As stated Pizza Hut’s brand image is neither fast food nor full-service. It delivers average quality products for average prices. Previously, it was marketed as a “more for the same” value proposition (Kotler & Armstrong, 2012).Yet, it has done something that shocked the whole market. It has cut the prices up to 50%. Doing that, Pizza Hut is fully reforming its brand image. They are implementing a “Same for less positioning” (Kotler & Armstrong, 2012). In a commercial, an actress playing a restaurant employee says, “We’ve changed just about everything, except how your favorite pizza tastes” (ELLIOTT, 2010). This move is due to a weakened economy and a drop of customers. But initiating a price change is not riskless. Customer may think that the quality has been reduced and Pizza Hut could lose its loyal customers.…
