Socrates believes that all virtues share one common attribute- that they are virtues. He states there are different kinds of virtues, but it does not change the fact that it is a virtue. Meno’s definition is not specific enough for Socrates as he is simply using examples
to try to define something. To get Meno to understand what he means he compares virtues to bees. Although there are different types of bees, that look and act differently. They all share the same characteristics that put them under the category of bees. Meno has a difficult time wrapping his head around what is being asked of him and throughout the debate cannot create a clear definition.
