Borefts purpose of writing this research paper is to inform the audience that having people with mental disabilities work can be a bad thing for the workers and the community. She stated that “Not being able to work or not performing at work optimally is not only a burden for patients and their direct environment, but also for the community due to increasing costs.” So having people with mental disabilities in the workplace is often affected the community negatively. In this essay they examined four types of ways that are causing a negative effect; difficulty with day-to-day work, difficulty with doing most important work tasks, difficulty getting all work done, and difficulty getting work done as quickly as needed. All of these things can become a major problem for supervisors and more importantly the community. In conclusion of this lab, they believe that having people with mental disabilities in the workplace will eventually cause a negative impact on the company and the community. First, they interviewed all of the participants about their mental history and their regular daily lives (how they live with a mental disability). After interviewing them about their personal background they worked out personal reasons for each person as to why they did not return back to their jobs. They included many psychiatric physicians and nurses to help with the following conclusion. After the experiment was complete they came up with the conclusion that almost all of the men that participated in the experiment came out with a job while nearly half of the woman did not come out with a job, also almost thirty percent of the woman relapsed and did not make any improvement whatsoever. There are many difference during the experiment; there were more men than women, their age differences and their personal backgrounds. All of these differences could have caused the outcome to be what it was or likely changed the outcome of what it should have been if they had only used men in the experiment.
