The subcategories included are voyeurism, exhibitionism, frotteurism, sexual masochism, sexual sadism, pedophilia, fetishism, transvestism, and paraphilia not otherwise specified. Treatments included therapy models such as individual therapy, group therapy, solution-focused therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy alone and in conjunction with pharmacological agents. The effectiveness of these treatment options are examined to determine how effective they are in paraphilias with comorbidities. The need for additional research on the long-term effects of pharmacological agents was established.…

As a child, Dahmer was shy and suffered from low self-esteem. At a young age, Dahmer displayed abnormal behavior starting with the collecting of dead animals and using acid to strip off the meat having necrophilia desires. This escalated in his teen years turning into fantasies of killing and mutilating men. After graduating from high school, he was living alone and the feelings of abandonment returned giving him justification in his mind to commit crimes. Throughout his teens years he abused alcohol, which also lead to abnormal behavior. By the age of 18, his parents divorced leaving him to feel abandoned, lost and rejected. Shortly after, Dahmer committed his first murder of a hitchhiker named Stephen Hicks. Dahmer took Hicks home and killed him by smashing his head and bones when the man wanted to leave (Bardsley, 2008).…

Pornography comes in different forms such as pictures, film or writing which stimulates sexual arousal. Child pornography is the deliberate abuse of a minor, it not only destroys Childs self-esteem but it later becomes an issue for society to deal with as well. Children are forced to endure both physical and mental harm. A young mind does not have the capability of understanding that what is happening to them is wrong. The young victims are usually lured into watching explicit materials first by the pedophile, in which it is made to seem as though these acts are acceptable and that “everyone is doing it”.…

About half of all adults report that they did engage in some form of sex play as children (Psychosexual Development, pg. 61). Childhood role-playing interprets adult meaning and attributed to the behavior that is ill-formed. Some adults can recall that, at the time, they were concerned with being found out. Values (or feelings, or images) are of great importance that children pick up as being related to sex. The learning of sex roles, or sex identities, involves various things that are remote from actual sexual experience, or become involved with sexuality after puberty. Masculinity and femininity, their meaning and postures, are rehearsed before adolescence in many nonsexual ways (Psychosexual Development, pg. 62). Marshall, Marshall, and Serran (2006) were able to identify and describe the treatment approaches for paraphilics there have been conducted. Although the majority of the treatment programs identified by Marshall et al. seemed to only be treating those that are convicted sexual offenders there was never any mention of non-offending paraphilias that go through treatment. They decided to focus their study on sexual offenders because they found in their research that that since other paraphilics and sexual offenders were thought to be so similar, they would also go through the treatment process the same way.…

It can also include masturbating in front of a child and inappropriately watching a child dress or undress. The third form will be sexual exploitation. The majority of today’s society views sexual relations between an adult and a child to be disgusting and wrong. Let alone a relationship between one’s own kin. Although in the past children were married at younger ages to adults, generally young girls to older men, most societies have casted aside these traditions and instead deem it as taboo and illegal. Children who are exposed to sexual activities are more likely to have long term negative effects psychologically rather than physically. The clear cut definition of child sexual abuse is an adult using a child for their own sexual gratification. Furthermore, a child can also experience sexual exploitation where the child does not necessarily have genital contact but are involved in child pornography or observes a sexual act being played out. There are many other terms that are used to describe child abuse such as; molestation, victimization, assault, and rape. Children who are raped are descried as having the perpetrator intrude an aperture of the child’s body by using any part of their body to do so. Though even with these definitions it is difficult to determine certain acts sexual abuse, for instance when it is not okay for a parent to bathe with their children. Lastly, there are two different types of sexual abuse that are termed using the perpetrator. Interfamilial abuse, another word for incest, is a child being abused by a person that is related by blood or…
