Mental Health Benefits Of Exercise
In article two, exercise is defined as “training of the body to improve its function and enhance its fitness”. Exercise is something that improves mental health and well being, while also reducing depression, anxiety, and enhances cognitive functioning. This article reports the results of a literature review examination. Throughout history many societies have used exercise as a means of preventing disease, promoting health, and ones overall well-being. Exercise reduces anxiety, depression, and negative moods. While it states that exercise helps reduce depression, it is believed to advocate as a more effective antidote to depression than psychoanalysis. Anxiety has several different views that suggest the impact of exercise on anxiety. One view suggests that exercise raises body temperature reducing muscle tension lowering anxiety. …show more content…
These are all great examples of exercise being beneficial for mental health through all the positive effects being mentally sharp. In the article, exercise is also associated with improving the quality of life for people with Schizophrenia. However, exercise is rarely recognized by mainstream mental health services, as an effective intervention because there is evidence to suggest that exercise may be a neglected intervention in mental health care. In the final portion of the article, the article consists of examinations of whether mental health practitioners use exercise as a treatment and how exercise can be used into the every day lives of people with mental health

As people grow older in age they can have a decline in cognitive ability, resulting in dementia such as Alzheimer’s. Staying active and exercising regularly keeps the brain healthy and elastic, preventing breakdown. Evidence suggests that regular exercise is more beneficial to our general health than taking medication because it decreases the risk of heart disease, decreases depression, increases cognitive function and has no chemical side effects.…

    Relieving stress can be done by nearly any kind of exercise (Mayo Staff). Exercising or being active boost the endorphins that make you feel emotionally and physically good. The vast majority of research on the relationship between exercise and psychological well-being has used aerobic exercise and it was once believed that exercise needed to be of a sufficient duration and intensity to produce positive effects, however, more recent studies have indicated that high-intensity aerobic activity is not completely necessary to produce positive benefits, and that activities such as weight or strength training and other non-aerobic exercises can produce positive effects on psychological well-being (Berger, Pargman & Weinberg, 2002, pp. 399).…
